Yup, you should be fine.

i submitted it at 9:56 PST and common app says it was submitted 1/2…does common app measure in EST always?

11:41 and 11:56 pm CT respectively. you’re both fine.

thanks for the replies guys : D

The server crashed and my son’s application to NYU was submitted 20 minutes late. Will NYU accept the application??

My son’s application to NYU was 20 minutes late due to the server crash. Will they accept his application?

^^Knock! Knock! This is the Northwestern University thread, not the New York University thread.

There are ALWAYS hidden grace periods with submitting the commonapp late.

You can usually be 2-3 days late and still be ok.

I would hope the grace period thing is true, because colleges can only see the DAY you turned in the application, not the exact time. Common App isn’t advanced enough to record your hours and minutes, I think.

So… :

HYPhoper…why do you maintain that there is ALWAYS a grace period?
That statement may cause a very slippery slope for someone reading this NU forum next year.
I do not believe this grace period applies to NU. Plan accordingly.
APOL-a Mom

NEVER count on a grace period. My son was working on essays for his last 3 apps until about 8:45PM the night of January 1st… West Coast time! Two of the three were due 1/1/10. One suppliment got in before 9PM, the balance by 9:30PM PST. Everything but the suppliment had a common app date stamp of 1/2/10. Looks like everything went through okay. However, another student at this site tried to apply to one of those schools yesterday (1/3/10) and the common app would not allow them to apply.

Lesson: The common app will stamp your submissions as of Eastern Standard Time (EST) so plan accordingly!
