MIT Class of 2018 - THE WAIT BEGINS

I should not have created a desktop countdown clock…bad idea

anyone know the date decisions come out?

They came out last year on the 15th.

I just made a countdown clock…
:open_mouth:

Hey everyone, I’m from Southern California btw

Yep, last year was 12:15 PM on 12/15. Less than a month to go! I should probably get to work on my other applications…

I’m from SoCal too!

Hi guys I also applied for 2018!
Do you guys think decision date could be 12/14 at 12:14 PM this year? It seems like they’re aiming for Saturdays based on Dec 2011/2012 but if the date’s from 12/15-12/20, then what if it’s 12/21? Though in 2010 it was on Thursday 12/17 at 9:00 PM so I guess maybe they won’t continue the pattern?

You can probably tell I’m a little bit nervous ;)

I’ve been done with all my other college apps for about a week now so I have nothing to distract me … Should read a book or something, to prevent MIT from eating away at my nerves.

Have you guys read anything good lately?

P.S. To everyone in the States, hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Can one of you tell me when your interview was? I’m applying regular and am freaking out about my interview.

I contacted my EC in early September and scheduled the interview in early October (I applied early action)

@Texasian0 Isn’t the interview scheduling deadline October 10th? Why did you contact so early? And do the two of you decide on it, and can it be after November 1st (for you)?

The deadline was October 20th and there was no real reason for me to contact her so early, I just did. My EC asked me what days of the week I’m generally available, and in a later email asked me if X date was ok. This probably differs from EC to EC, but it should be generally the same. I think it could have been after Nov. 1, but there’s a certain deadline for the EC to submit, so it’d probably be better if you had it before the Jan. 1 deadline.

I contacted mine back in either late August or Early September and had my interview on September 11th

I haven’t had time to read anything but I made finishing “Catching Fire” before the movie came out work

I emailed my EC and the response was that I could choose between a few dates to have my interview, so I did.

Don’t stress out for the interview; I tried not to, and imo mine was great (although it’s probably great for most people). I think that MIT just wants to ascertain that you’re a sane person who’d be cool to hang out with, and won’t end up being a robot or committing suicide or something while at MIT. Basically take a chill pill the entire interview, be charming, and you’re fine. xD

Hey everyone…I just realized…decisions in only about 2 weeks -_-

omg
wut do
such scare
sad face
much anxious

about 2 weeks, guys :3

If it does come out 12/15 at 12:15 then it is in 12 days 12 hours 36 mins and 5 secs as of posting this.

Yes! I read a great book called “The Space Race” about…well, you can probably guess. It was interesting because the man in charge of the Soviet space program, Korolev, was like the equivalent of von Braun and yet he never got the recognition he deserved; the West didn’t even know who he was until after he died!

I would guess the announcement will be 12/14, but at this point it’s too early to tell since they haven’t made a blog post about it yet. Plus they have more applications than last year, so I’m not too fixated on the announcement date. We’ll know when we know :)

Surprise blog post:
“We tricked you, EA Applicants! We finished looking through apps 2 days ago! And we decided to reject EVERYONE!”
…I’d be so crushed.

Anyway, for the RD people who still need to do their interview, just take it easy  . Not everyone is a fantastic conversation-maker, and not everyone is going to be bffs with their EC after the interview. I’m sure that MIT doesn’t expect everyone to charm the ECs with a melodious stream of words. It’s ok to be nervous. The most important thing is probably to avoid being rude and to be interested in talking with your EC. Dude, he/she’s an MIT Alumni! HE/SHE’S LIVING YOUR DREAM!

The days are growing shorter and my face grows longer each day that the admissions date gets closer.

2 weeks, guys. < 2 weeks.
