My interview lasted about 2 hours, but mit admissions says that its about 1-2 hours
I feel that my interview went really well, but I still have no idea if I am going to get into MIT. I kinda expect to be deferred EA and then receive my decision in the spring…
My interview went little over 1 hour
Submitted both a research and Maker Portfolio.
My interview lasted for about an hour.
How do you think your interviews went?
Mine was terrible. My interviewer failed to mention that there were 3 Starbucks’ at the shopping mall we were supposed to meet ( I live in another city so had no idea) and since he did not indicate which one… Well you get the idea. I was really scared that I missed my interview. In the end I didn’t but in all that panic and confusion…
mine lasted around 2 hours
mine lasted about three hours and he graduated from the same high school, i think it went well lol
My interview was an hour and a half. I submitted a research portfolio.
Question: I sent my score in early October and it still isn’t showing up on MyMIT account. Should I email them? I’m worried if this issue which I have no control over could hurt me.
My interview lasted an hour fifteen minutes. I had to wait an extra hour since he had a committee meeting that went long (he’s a state representative). We got so into our conversation that he lost track of time. It was my first college interview and I think it went very well!
My son’s interview lasted about an hour. He thought it went pretty well. He was pleasantly surprised by the analytical/logical questions that he was asked (about mass displacement and physics concepts). He had assumed it would be like other college interviews where it was just chit chat about what you like, why you want to attend, what drew you to the college, why you are choosing the major you are, ,etc. But it was much more of a “test” of sorts to see how he approached problems, like you hear about candidates being asked when applying for investment banking jobs (how many quarters would you need to stack to have a stack as high as the Empire State Building, etc). There was some chit chat, but it was mostly the other type of questions. Interesting to see how different alums approach the interview!
Email the admissions office if you sent something which doesn’t show as received. Better safe than sorry.
Does anyone know what the admission officers might be doing ATM? I mean they accept test scores until the end of November for EA, and if those haven’t arrived they can’t really review the applications to its full context. So are they waiting for the “incomplete” applications and just working on the ones that have no more scores left to arrive? I know they did disclose their application review procedures briefly on their page but still curious what their timeline looks like.
Does anyone know when EA admits receive their financial aid package?
My interview was just over 30 minutes. Didn’t feel like it went too well-- I wouldn’t say bad, I just didn’t get to talk about what I was ready to talk about lol But my interviewer said it went well, and to focus on nailing the rest of my application.
I applied EA. Only about a month left before decisions!
My interview lasted 4 hours. It was really long and kind of random but I think it went well.
mine lasted about 50 minutes, was at starbucks. I was really thirsty but instead of getting drinks we went ahead and talked. interviewer became really judgmental when I told him I was applying to SHASS for sound production and music technology… he automatically assumed I was going to MIT to study music and started full-on doubting me about my reasons for applying to MIT, and not taking advantage of it as a tech school. it really frustrated me because he was so stubborn, but I’m hoping for a miracle!
From what I understand, alumni interviews at MIT are pretty much informational only. I seriously doubt the interview will have an impact on you application regardless of whether you felt it went good or bad. The length of the interview does not matter either except that you hopefully learned more about MIT during that time. I do however, think that the fact that you took the time to have an interview does show you have serious interest in MIT. My kids’ MIT interviews each lasted about an hour.
@Sam-I-Am I would disagree. For the MIT App, an interview is required. It is not simply something that shows your “interest”. That is not to say that some students get their interviewed waived, but that is due to other reasons. If you look at the Common Data Sheet for MIT it shows that the interview is pretty important in the decision process. I would not dismiss the importance of it.
“In fact, last year, of eligible applicants, we admitted 10.8% of those who had an interview (or who had their interview waived) but only 1% of those who chose not to interview.”

So, yeah, taking advantage of the opportunity to have an interview is very important.
