So, what does it say?

they sent a package with additional information on the MITES program such as info on housing, meals, schedule, etc. They also sent a student travel and information form, a computer skills assessment form, a photo release form, parental release form, a code of conduct form, a physical education waiver, a loft bed slip, and a Google account form which has to be filled out and postmarked by May 19th. There are also a list of people that were accepted so that we can contact each other and form car pools to share rides

Anything...?

thanks again,
ansar

^lol. probably won't be out til october or so. don't really know though.

Oh my god that was a great summer.

Care to share? :)

Would I have a chance going?
1/2 Black 1/2 ORM
2100 SAT
3.9 GPA
top 10% of class
Couple of clubs, cabinet for 1

Yeah, you would. With good essays that you intense academic interest especially in science and determination.
Also good recs.

yes it was. Amazing summer!!!!

Anyways anyone who is interested in applying application comes out this month. Take the essays seriously and get good recs from teachers who know you well. SAT scores are not the most important I got in and had a 137 on my PSAT and 1320 on SAT. Your GPA and classes are probably the most important academics wise. Also it really good if you have extra-curricular act. and if you are in charge of them. Lastly if you do apply good luck to you i will be the best summer ever but don't be sad if you dont get in because it just means you probably wouldnt benefit as much as someone else from the program.

or you could have the really amazing opportunity of going for the weekend in April : )

The application requires an evaluation from my current science teacher, but I'm not taking science this year. Can I still apply? Maybe I could just get one from my science teacher last year?

Can I apply both MITES and RSI at the same time?

Yes, you surely may.

hey guys, I just found out about the MITES program a few weeks ago. I was just wondering, do you necessarily have to come from a bad background to get in? I'm African american, but my family is doing ok, money wise, but my school is predominantly black. any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Would these courses help you to take science AP exams? I do not have much room in my schedule for science APs... I heard these classes are university-leveled; is that true?? I think I might apply...

I hope not. My family has been described as "well off" and my (public) school is nationally ranked and majority white (slightly, representative of the city's demographics).

Okay, I got a postcard thingy from MITES a few weeks ago and it was headed for the trash with all the usual junk mail when I noticed the word FREE. Now I can't help but have my heart set on it. Can anyone who participated previously tell me if I have a chance?

Gender: Female
Race: Native American
Location: Podunk, USA aka Alabama folks. about 20,000 in my town according to the last census...I think they were being generous.
GPA: 4.06
Scores: ACT 31, hoping to get up to 33 by February / waiting on my PSAT but I took it last year and got a 207. (The cutoff in Alabama was 209 so I'm freaking out over that.)
Classes: This might be a problem, since my school has THREE AP classes and I'm only taking one since they also partner with the local college to offer dual enrollment which I prefer to AP since it gets me more college credit. My class rank is 2 out of 250.
Extras:
-Math Team
-Scholars' Bowl
-Marching Band
-Fellowship of Christian Athletes
-Beta Club
-National Honor Society
-French Club
-HOBY ambassador last year
-SITE (Student Introduction to Engineering) Camp at the Unviersity of Alabama
-Tutor ESL students at the local middle school
-Learn to Read Foundation -(basically what it sounds like, they partner you w/ an illiterate child or adult and you teach them and their family how to read)

I'm thinking of being a candy striper at the local hospital, too. How big are they on community service? Should I take the SAT?

Is MITES and SSP equally difficult to get in? Someone told me MITES was easier.
Does being korean count against you if you apply for MITES? Does SSP care if you're white, asian, black, etc, etc?

To my knowledge, MITES is more welcoming to URM kids (so I think being an Asian can potentially make it harder for you). But, I think SSP do not really care about gender or race.
