MIT MITES @2015

The psat seemed easier this year than it was last year but it’s still graded pretty harshly. I’m really worried about my essays though, I feel like I don’t have a lot of struggles to talk about, maybe when I write them I might figure something out.

Great to see all of the responses guys!
I am submitting my PSAT scores(even though I’m pretty sure I scored below a 200)
classes this year:
AP Computer Science
AP Calculus
AP Chemistry
AICE Marine Science
AICE Global Perspectives
AICE English
and 1 honors class(French 3) and one regular (Engineering Design)
BTW for those of you who don’t know, AICE is the equivalent of an AP class, it’s just through the Cambridge University’s program.
Cn’t wait to hear about you guys as well!!

BTW I am only submitting my PSAT scores because I din’t sign up for the SAT/ACT soon enough and my scores are not as high as I would like them to be yet.

I have an announcement: to the best of my knowledge, THE APPLICATION OPENS TOMORROW NOV 18 FOR THE 2015 PROGRAM. DEADLINE IS NOT UNTIL FEBRUARY, HOWEVER

Question just out of curiosity: Have any of you guys actually finished your essays yet? Is anyone submitting their application yet? I know a lot of us are going to wait until around January, because that’s when we get our PSAT scores back to submit. If you want to contribute to the thread, just post anything you think would be helpful, any questions you have, concerns, stories of panic attacks, ect. Lol.

I wasn’t sure if the essay topics would be the same as last year so I didn’t write anything yet. But good luck to everyone! As of right now, the app isn’t up yet but I sure will be checking all day! :)

Yeah there’s a lot of time to write the essays so I was planning on waiting until the application came out to start on them. I’m gonna try to do a lot of them during Thanksgiving Break.

Dates for the program have been released. When do you all finish school next year? Are your schedules conflicting or not?

My schedule does conflict. I get out June 14th I believe, so not by much. Good thing I don’t live in Jersey anymore where I would’ve been getting out on the 28th

I finish school June 4th. Keep posting guys!!!

I get out June 4th as well! Anyone else worried about transportation costs if they get into the program? I really don’t know if my parents could afford to buy me a ticket to Boston and back, I could try to get a job but then what if I start working and end up getting rejected :(

I actually finish June 12th not the 14th so I’ll just miss the last couple of days. How far do you live from Boston? I’ll probably end up driving (it’s a 13 hr drive) bc it’s cheaper than airfare. You can also look into the Bolt Bus, Greyhound, etc (unless you live somewhere like Cali). Even if you don’t get accepted, at least you’ll have money to put towards something else!

Just as an FYI…dd applied to Mites and was not accepted. She is now a college freshman & had amazing college admissions results. She did have other summer experiences all throughout high school. She always applied to other summer programs as backups. There are plenty out there! Cast a wide net & do the best you can with each application. A rejection from Mites is not the end of the world.

@hailbo where do you live? I live in Florida so I’m getting a job to come up with the airplane ticket money. I think even if you do get a job, and don’t get accepted, you could still use the money for something else. That’s my mentality at the moment. I think it’d be better to have the money and not get accepted than get accepted and have to miss the program because you could not afford the transportation cost. Whatever you decide, I hope everything works out well for you!!

@NewHavenCTmom‌ do you know of other free summer programs like this one?

@Iamquiteloud‌ Yeah I was thinking about that situation as well might as well work for something, it could serve as an extracurricular and a means to get money. I live in California, like 10 minutes away from MIT’s rival CalTech lol.

Application is live!

What is the definition of minority for this program? Should it be ethnic minority or being a girl in engineering is a minority?

@seal16‌ I believe ethnic minority.

@seal16‌ but someone did mention earlier that a few non-minority students do get selected
