MIT MITES Summer 2014

@Apdenoatis I’d like to meet new people; whenever I’m given the chance, I usually convince myself that something will go wrong, and that I shouldn’t go for it.
@Fredsterboard Do you happen to be in a certain QuestBridge group on FB?

Better yet, heads I win, tails you lose.

It was tails…

Yep, the 2014-2015 one. I also started (along with someone else on this thread, I won’t say their user for anonymity) the “MIT class of 2019 applicants page”

mind if I join that one? ^^

@screamingpumpkin don’t worry about something going wrong, the worst thing that could happen is what happened in this video:
<a href=“Halloween Blast-O-Lantern (Exploding Pumpkin Face) - YouTube”>Halloween Blast-O-Lantern (Exploding Pumpkin Face) - YouTube;
(I figured this video was very appropriate for your username lol)
Also though, don’t worry too much, I understand it’s within nature to overthink social interactions too much but for the most part people don’t really care. Just be yourself (even if that means being a complete nerd like 99% of us are) and people will like you  (and if they don’t you always have us, people you’ve never met before on the internet (Y) )

@luckystar888 go right ahead, all of you c:

@screamingpumpkin I mean, if for some reason you’ve had a lot of bad experience with meeting new people before, then it’s understandable and it may not be as simple as just being more outgoing. But if it’s all just in your head, then let it go. If you’re just out to meet new people, then you needn’t expect too much from them. Most people are actually pretty nice, and I’m sure you are, too - while not everybody will respond favorably, you have to give it a try sometime. I think the key is to stop overthinking it - while shutting your brain off might not be the best idea, just relax. Being outwardly friendly takes some practice, but practice makes perfect
I used to be terrified of ordering takeout for similar reasons lol, but after like 7 calls I don’t worry about it so much anymore lol.

I personally still can’t call to order pizza on the phone or send emails. @screamingpumpkin you’re not alone lol. And honestly the moment you stop caring about what people think about you will be the moment you get along with people and meet new faces c: (or usernames in this case xD)

1w9 or 3w4 interesting and seemingly contradicting. Self paradox? haha

lol the chart may be more helpful. Enneagram tests tend to be kinda ehhhh.
And yay, I’m 1w2 :D

I’m not alone!! I hate talking on the phone, but I’m starting to care less and less every time. I don’t think that I’ve had any bad experiences, but I’ve seen how rude people can get with others, so I’m wary. I’ve found that when I really just put myself out there, though, good things happen. Now I want to get into MITES even more, so hopefully I can meet you great people, @Apdenoatis and @Fredsterboard (I asked about QB because I’ve talked to you on there before).

Is this anyone else’s most stressing week of the year? I have my two college class finals, my detailed outline for my extended essay (IB people you know what I’m talking about), World Lit paper, have to finish my Computer Science class this week, MITES/QB decisions, oh, and SAT in two weeks, 2 IB exams and 5 AP Exams… -_-. Just though we could all rant on here xD. and @fred, I’m not sure how that video was supposed to be comforting:P I didn’t realize the connection to the @pumpkins username, so you can imagine what I thought initially lol.

@Apdenoatis‌ yeah I know my dad and I just found it funny

So is MIT everyone’s top choice here? haha

MIT is my safety. Lol jk, yes, top choice xD

@Greenwave2015 You and I are in the exact same situation! Every thing you said applies to me. I’m so afraid for the AP chem test… and the calculus BC test… all the tests

Besides my top choices, I’m having a hard time finding other places to apply to. Where else are you guys planning on applying to, besides your top choices?

@Greenwave2015 I completely agree on the stress factor! I have several AP exams and finals coming up for most of my college classes. I too am taking the SAT in two weeks and then in June I have 4 state exams with SAT IIs and ACT. Aside from that, I am an athlete and we are now entering the prime competition season. Pressure from coaches on top of everything makes it much less fun. The assignments are overwhelming but I suppose we cannot complain too much since we all acknowledged what we were getting ourselves into in the first place. QB and MITES decisions are of course making me anxious as well haha.

mac vs pc… go…
