Hey everyone. Anybody have any idea how many people applied for mites this year? I’m still weighing doing MOSTEC vs. SES at Santa Clara. I wish I could do both but the seminar portion of mostec overlaps with SES. I’m leaning toward MOSTEC because it’s still prob more selective. SES got about 500 applicants and I think there’s about 40 people in 2 sessions? I also got into YCS at Pepperdine which I’m going to in June. Advice pleeeese!!!

@Skye3197 I believe over 1600 applied to MITES, but I do not know the exact figure.

Hi! I got into MOSTEC. I’m so excited to meet everyone!

Hi everyone! Congrats to all! It’s really awesome that we get to share news with everyone here as well as receive comfort. I was sooo excited when I got into E2@MIT and I cannot wait until August! Unfortunately, I don’t have a fb, but if anyone wants to post on talk cc, here I am. This is my first time posting, so :P. @aaliyahjae3 I’m nervous, too, because engineering is pretty new for me :-SS

@pursuithappy Same here! But I’m very excited and eager to meet everyone!!

Yay! more E2@MIT people! It’s crazy how we all talk to each other so normally on CC, but we haven’t met each other yet! Can’t wait til August! :)

Congrats to all who got in! I did MOSTEC last year, so hmu if you have any questions :)

Ahaha, another lurker here. Got into MITES!! I found out when I was chilling out in my engineering lab after school, and I literally jumped up, screamed, and cried when I saw “congratulations.” You guys are going to have a ton of fun watching me be all like chill and then randomly doing things like that this summer xD I’m the one who wrote “Nope! Unless you want me to write an essay about penguins!” For my optional essay.
I requested on FB C:

@FancyVase how was mostec. It looks like the first 3 weeks are pretty intense. How is it at MIT. Are we integrated w E2 and mites or more seperated? How did mostec look on your college apps?? I also got into SES at Santa Clara. They are both at the same time. Do you have to log on at scheduled times?

@Skye3197 MITES, E2ers, and MOSTEC kids usually don’t interact while they are at MIT XD.

@Skye319 mostec was great! The program itself and everyone in it were amazing :D

The first three weeks definitely came with a lot of work to do. I took the neuroscience course, so I can’t tell you much about the workload from the other courses (although I heard from friends that it was similar to neuro). Still, I knew plenty of people who did other internships and programs while working on mostec assignments, so it’s not crazy intense.

You do not work with E2 or MITES people (or even visit MIT during the same dates).

MOSTEC definitely strengthened my college apps, especially the MIT one, + you can get supplemental letters of rec from course instructors.

A couple of activities require you to log on at certain times (i.e. webinars on Sunday nights and chats on Wednesday & Sunday nights) and assignments certainly have due dates. You also have the MOSTEC conference which took part at the end of July / start of August last year. That’s mandatory, so I would look up the dates and check to see if it conflicts with SES.

@FancyVase so you were able to choose the course? Did you choose neuroscience because it interested you or because it was the one you were least familiar with it?

@Ginnymills yep, you rate them in order of preference and then get one. I chose it for both reasons haha. It was the course I was least familiar with but I was also very interested in learning about it (for personal reasons).

@FancyVase Do you know anyone that did computer science?

Do poeple who have taken AP calculus ab generally get placed in calc 2 or 3 at mites.

@Ginnymills yeah, I know a couple.

@FancyVase

Thanks a ton for answering questions!

Were you accepted to MIT? Did you get a supplemental rec from your instructor?

Are you still in contact with people you met through MOSTEC? How did they do as far as college acceptances?

THANKS AGAIN, it is super hard to find MOSTEC alum

@SineSquareSaw my pleasure I WAS accepted!! (still in shock)

Yep, I got a supplemental rec from my neuroscience instructor and one from my science writing (optional course - you take it) instructor.

I got close with a bunch of people from MOSTEC, and I talk to some of them every day, so… yes! As far as college acceptances: 17 admMITted, as well as MOSTECers getting into Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, CMU, other Ivies, etc.

No problem! Message me (or post here) if you have any other questions.
