MIT MITES Summer 2014

@denorge schedule the ACT for September, at least last year the first saturday of the program was dedicated to diagnostic exams. And you don’t want to add the stress of the ACT to the stress of visiting mit for six weeks ;)

have a question anyone who’ve been to the MOSTEC conference please help answer…I heard during this 5 day/4 night conference, we get to live in dorms…but we all meet each other for the first time…I don’t know anybody over there…are the rooms assigned?do we get to choose? And another question about presentations, is this individual or group project?

^^ @FancyVase‌ ^^

@jojomoo‌ Yep, all MOSTECers stay in one MIT dorm (last year it was New House). Most people got a single but a couple got doubles, I don’t know if they’ll change that this year. You don’t get to choose; rooms are assigned.

Don’t worry about not knowing anyone, you’ll meet a lot of people both in the conference and during the three weeks before it (and some more after the conference).

I’m not sure about other courses (I think they’re organized similarly though), but in neuro we had individual projects/presentations. All courses then give a group presentation to explain what they worked on throughout MOSTEC.

@Twis7ed
Thanks for that!

Does anyone know how impactful MITES’s college requiter fair will be on college admissions to Harvard or Stanford?

“To help students gain a better understanding of how to gain admission to top schools like MIT, students will interact with MIT admissions and financial aid officers through seminars and dinners. Students will also participate in a College Fair with recruiters from 10-20 universities, including MIT, Stanford, and Harvard. During the College Fair, the recruiters will give short presentations and provide students with the opportunity to ask questions.”

@FancyVase Thanks a lot for this information I feel much more confident now

I just got accepted to LLRISE (another higly selective STEM program at MIT)
Did anyone else apply and get in?

Congrats @HomoZapien24‌! I applied but I still didnt get an answer. Did you get the decision through email or through your MITES account?

Hmm didn’t hear back from LLRISE yet.

@thalamus @Existentialized. I got a direct e-mail at 3:03 p.m yesterday from Chiamaka Porter informing and congratulating me on my acceptance.

Quick question: does mites have any policy against smoking cigarettes or general tobacco usage? I don’t believe the campus is smoke free, but I would like to avoid running into trouble.

Anyone else get their LLRISE decisions yet?

Is there anyone following this thread, or anyone who knows of someone who did not get into MITES but got the undergraduate admission at MIT?

@twomorelevels‌ That happened to my older brother.

Ah ok. The reason I ask is I didn’t get MITES (sadly), and I too want to attend MIT. I was wondering if your brother is willing to talk via email (or on this forum, whatever works). Perhaps he can give some tips and pointers on the application process, essays, etc ?

@twomorelevels‌ I definitely wouldn’t worry about that. I personally attended MITES and currently attend MIT, but MITES happens to be even more selective than MIT. And MITES is a little different in the way they choose their students. Definitely don’t be discouraged - not having gotten into MITES really doesn’t say much. I have many friends who didn’t get into MITES but later got into some great schools, including MIT. You can always message me if you want advice!

Hi guys! I just found this forum and the fb group today. I got into MOSTEC as well! I requested to join the fb group and was wondering if one of you could add me. I look forward to meeting you guys this summer!

Hello All! Sorry to revive an old thread, but I recently found this thread and I’m going to be applying for MITES this upcoming school year. According to their website the program ended yesterday. I would love to know your experiences at the program!! How was the school, classes, stuff you did outside of class, the people, etc.

Thanks.

^ Yes please!!!
