I’m applying Early Action to MIT. I already took the math 2 subject test in May but got a 620 on it so obviously I retook it. However, I live in Puerto Rico and the makeup for the october sat was this past saturday. Scores wont be up until november 9 and the last chance to take subject tests is on November 4. I took math 2 and Bio E in October and Im going to retake Bio E but I’m not sure if I should take either Math 1 or Math 2. I have never tried math 1 and honestly im tired of math 2. Thoughts? Here are some of my stats jic:
SAT 1: 1540 (750 EBR&W and 790 Math)
GPA: 4.3 W
Hispanic from PR
This choice has been much debated in past admissions cycles. Math 1 is easier but the curve is very, very demanding. Math 2 has the easier curve but is the harder test. My suggestion is to stick with math 2 since that is what you previously studied for. I hope you have access to electricity and more practice tests so that you can focus on the types of problems you previously missed. Good luck! Your SAT 1 scores are excellent, though I am pretty sure you will want to hit one subject test at 750 and the second one at least 700 in order to have the best chance. Some people might suggest shooting for 750 for both subject tests. Take your best shot and good luck!
Would taking math 2 three times be seen as bad? Like I don’t want to send the 620 score but I’m afraid taking it three times would be seen as excessive. Thank you anyhow!
MIT is going to want to see Math2 since it covers more complex topics and MIT is very focused on the math performance of applicants
No I heard directly from an MIT admissions officer that they don’t care: Math 1 vs Math 2 makes no difference to them. Either is fine, really.
Any chance of getting your hands on a College Board math or subject test book and taking a released test of each to see where you are?
This book has one of each

This book has the same level 1 and 2 tests from above, plus one more of each level

Are subject tests required?
Update: A friend of mine gave me all her books on subject tests and she gave me the Barrons and Princeton Review books for math 1; she also gave me the official study guide for math1 and 2. I think I’m gonna take a
math 1 practice test and see how I do. 2 subject tests are required for MIT: one science and one math
I agree, take a practice test to see how well you can score on math 1. By the way, you can take up to 3 subject tests in one sitting, so you really can try both. Also Dr. John Chung’s prep books are great. If you study from his books you will be very prepared.
Dr. John Chung’s prep book is the best! I underestimated it before I took the Math 2.
Update #2: Took a math 1 practice test and got a 760. I think I’m gonna take this one because never in my life have i gotten close to scoring a 700 on math 2. I think it has to do with me taking regular pre calculus while i took honors geometry and algebra 2. idk really but well see how it goes!
Good luck!
