Not sure what to do! I emailed the program with the email provided and received an automatic email that said the WISE director would be out until August 25 and that results would be emailed out by August 15. Should I keep waiting? I’ve been checking the promotions tab as well as the spam folder in my email account.
Did anyone else get the part where they say they “strongly encourage you to apply for admission to the class of 2020”? I’m hoping that that means I have some chance of getting into MIT and that it’s not just the rejection email they send to everyone…
Anyways, congrats to those who did get in, this program was more selective than actual MIT admissions so yall should feel proud
D16 also got “strongly encourage you to apply for admission”. I don’t know if it means she has some chance or whether they just want lots of applications.
some of my friends contacted to the WISE office, apparently there was a problem with the emails and they should all go out by today
“D16 also got “strongly encourage you to apply for admission”. I don’t know if it means she has some chance or whether they just want lots of applications.”
It means that students like her (from what we know now, anyway, which is usually stuff like test scores & self-reported GPA) are reasonable, even competitive, applicants to MIT.
We generally have worked over the last few years to level out or even reduce the # of apps to MIT, so it’s not the latter.
Thanks @MITChris !
@bouders where did you find the number of applicants?
@bluebird77 It was in the email they sent.
@MITChris Was it considerably harder to get in if you’d already visited the campus?
Has anyone else not received an email? Still waiting.
@sunstate I haven’t gotten an email yet either.
I haven’t gotten an email either.
Just got an email a couple minutes ago! Denied really wanted to get in! Have fun everyone!
Congratulations to all who got into the WISE program.
My son attending four years ago and the experience was life changing. Before then, he hadn’t really considered applying to MIT, thinking he didn’t want to attend a STEM school. The 3 days (or however long) at MIT for the WISE program not only caused him to apply to MIT, but when it came time to choose a school, since he didn’t make it to CPW, that experience caused him to choose MIT over schools such as Princeton, Caltech and Harvey Mudd.
He’s a rising senior at MIT, and we really have the WISE program to thank for giving him a wonderful introduction to MIT.
…I still haven’t gotten an email yet.
No email for me yet either :-S
At this point, I would say that no email = rejected b/c MIT has to arrange travel and stuff, so they probably will make sure that accepted students will be notified/contacted.
I assume that would most likely be the case.
I sent an email to only receive an automated reply that stated that all decisions were released on August 17th, which is obviously false.
That they would respond immediately and first to the accepted is logically understandable, but to simply put off and ignore those who were rejected is, however, very rude and disappointing of the program. These people also put in the time and effort for sending in an application and should, at the very least, be notified on time of their results.
I get that the assumed rejected applicants would be emailed after those who were accepted, but to never receive a response or to receive one half a week late is really frowned upon.
@MITChris: Could we please have an update regarding this issue? This experience is incredibly frustrating to potential MIT applicants and poorly reflects your institution’s standards.
Does anyone know if they were specifically looking for minorities for this visit?
@MITChris was it considerably harder to get in if you’d gone to MIT before?
It just occurred to me that when I received my acceptance to the WISE program last year, my email went straight to my trash folder. So, if any of you are still concerned about not receiving an email yet, check trash and spam folders (I have a gmail account). Hope this helps.
