Mit Wtp 2008

^^^: That is what I thought too. So it seems the MIT WTP office is lying about it as they said they have not written anything like that.
Just checking if anyone had recieved such letter and what was the wording so that it can be asked to the WTP office what is wrong in telling that they did issue such letters.
No one can stop them from issuing any type of the letters but saying that they have not issued any such letters when they had (Not that I've come across one) but as conveyed by some posters so wanted to know what exactly they write.

OK, let's get real here. The WTP office does not lie. In past years, they sent out "overqualified" letters, but that created so much confusion the directors decided not to do that this year. Instead two types of rejection letters were sent - girls with outstanding academics received the sentences about applying to MIT quoted by IndianInLA. Girls with good but not fantastic academics did not receive this text, but that doesn't mean they won't get into MIT - they should still apply if they want to.

The text quoted by Classof09 was NOT a rejection letter - simply an explanation as to why she had been admitted to WTP-ME even though she put that she preferred EECS on the application form. There were NO OVERQUALIFIED letters sent out this year, and NO GIRL should assume that she shouldn't apply to MIT because of a rejection from WTP.

WTP HAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CRITERIA THAN MIT!!! Arwen15, krica205, and Reaching have it right. Yes, if you go to WTP it probably helps for MIT admission, but rejection from WTP means NOTHING about your chances of getting into MIT.

oh, thats interesting, I didn't realize there were no overqualification letters sent, thanks :]

hey
my letter didn't say that i was overqualified, but if you recall I emailed them about my decision before i got that letter b/c i needed to make a decision w/ other programs
and they told me something like that in the email. (or perhaps i may have misinterpreted)
but my letter doesnt say anything

ps who is getthefacts (: that is really funny

getthefacts ... in agreement with you.

Last year, I got an explicit "overqualified" letter and was both confused
and really not sure if I should apply to MIT. The new WTP letter approach
will probably not cause as much pain or consternation.

....the happy ending of course is that I did get admitted EA to MIT this year!

:)

getthefacts:: Thanks for clarifying.
I didn't want to doubt the MIT-WTP people but got confused by Narcissa response in #260 and burnitblue in #280.

Thanks, indianInLA. Those two posts were confusing to me as well.

I hope we can lay this issue to rest, and that all of you who were unfortunately rejected from WTP will still apply to MIT if you want to next fall - and you should be optimistic about your chances, because almost all the applicants to WTP this year were highly qualified, so not getting one of the 60 spots out of 219 applicants does NOT mean you won't be one of the about 11% of applicants to MIT that are accepted.

And, finally, if you already were pretty sure you want to apply to MIT, you are probably NOT the WTP target audience - WTP is designed to be an advanced introductory program - to let girls know that engineering is actually really fun and something they might want to consider as they apply to college. If you already want to go to MIT, you probably already know that!

hopefully i cleared up my confusing post in #264.
also for girls its 22% ;)
ps. i didn't answer your question (#279) b/c i didn't know if they made a mistake in the email/letter.

Whoops, sorry for the confusion, indianinLA.

anyone decide (or not decide) to go that was vacillating before?

I withdrew :/

so it's njgs for you?

Why did you withdraw, classof09?

I'm going to NJ governor school science, because some things came up and the dates work better for me. :)

i withdrew, too.

So...no one's really posted for a while (i blame ap's), but now that that's mostly over I'm totally excited for WTP!!! Unfortunately I need to sit through another month of classes. Oh well.

Since no one really knows each other, perhaps we should ask each other questions like on last year's thread.

I'll go first: What is your favorite game?

Ticket to Ride! It's a board game about trains, which sounds lame but is incredibly fun. I wish I could take it with me, but alas, the box is rather large.

Favorite magazine?

My favorites are Brio & Beyond (a Christian mag for teen girls) and Discover (I like science).

Favorite novel/series?

hello, ladies!
i know you all must be really excited with wtp just around the corner!! i went last summer and had a blast so if you have any questions feel free to ask. :)

Okay, when they say take a small book bag, what are we carrying in terms of books? I have a medium Timbuk2 messenger, but that might be too big.

Would just a regular tote bag work?

Also, should I consider taking more than one sweatshirt?

(you can probably tell I'm in full packing mode now :D)
