MITES 2009 Information and Discussion

on the application there is a box for Science Courses: Science… I don’t know if I should check that or not… what kind of class is seriously called science?

sounds fun…I hope I get in!!!

I apologize for the relatively tardy reply. I believe the box for science courses pertains to any course that isn’t exactly Biology, Physics, or Chemistry. For example, if you’ve taken an Environmental or an Earth Science course, you should check the Science box. Conversely, if all the courses you’ve taken have been one of the main three, then there is no need to check the Science box. After all, the people who look at your application will see your transcript also to confirm the classes you’ve taken.

Mi Vida, who are you? I’m Chris P from MITES 2008, and I can also help answer questions about it.

Are there any YouTube videos from the 2008 Mites class?

Hey guys, I new CCer and I’m really interested in MITES. Problem is, I haven’t taken the SAT yet. I have taken a couple of SAT IIs and the PSAT, would this be enough for MITES or is it critical that I take the SAT I?

None that I know of, but there are a few MITES 2007 videos.

MITES doesn’t require applicants to submit SAT subject test scores. The only testing requirement is taking one of the following: SAT, PSAT, or ACT. So, you seem to be all set in terms of standardized testing requirements.

thanks for being so helpful !Mi Vida!
:)

Haha No problem. It’s all for MITES (and you guys, of course) and my way of giving back to a program that has changed and will continue to change many lives.

Wait, so on the application, we only have to fill out one of the three test information?

(I took both the PSAT and SAT, so I don’t know if I have to fill in what I got for both)

If you did well on both tests then you could put both scores, and if not then just put the best one.

Oh, okay.

Thanks  (I didn’t do very well on my PSAT >_< )

This thread pretty much covers it. If you want any more info regarding the program, feel free to PM me. I was there with !Mi Vida! (whoever that is!) and fnord.

How well do you need to score on standardized tests for MITES?

I wouldn’t know the answer to this question since MITES doesn’t publish statistics on its applicants or admitees, but I would assume that, since these scores are probably used as a measure of your ability to handle difficult material, anything well above average would be good.

Actually, MITES does publish statistics for its admitees. Look at the bottom of this page for average PSAT scores: [MIT MITES Program](<a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science)

It looks like the average PSAT score is about a 180, but we don’t know the statistics for the writing section (I’m pretty sure they ignore this section).

Touch

How many CC’ers are planning on applying to MITES?

Hopefully all the juniors! :D

@OURaqt

what was your most memborable part of MITES and do you still talk to the ppl you went to MITES with???
