MITES 2011 Information & Discussion

Maybe, but then again the application is pretty much completely online.

1 essay down…3 more to go :P

Haha, 4 more to go for me. >_<

if i want to submit extra stuff (that i forgot to put on the app when i sent it in)
do you think i will be able to?
should i email MITES HQ? :O

If by extra stuff you mean supplementary material, I do not think that MITES requires or wants anything besides what they ask. Your counselor has to submit PSAT scores, 1st semester grades, and her recommendation. Your science/math teachers will submit their recommendations too. Besides the information on the online app, I don’t think they want anything else.

Doesn’t your counselor also send in the SAT scores? I think this was mentioned earlier in the thread somewhere…

yeah im pretty sure the counselor sends in SAT scores.
i sent in my app a week and a half ago
but my counselor hasn’t received an email from MITES =(
and i havent received confirmation yet either.

from what i saw in last year’s thread(or was it the one from year before that?) was that some people recieve the confirmation email later due to the large number of applications recieved.

If you log back into your mites account on the website and go to the application, it should tell at the bottom whether or not they received your supplemental information.

^ awesome thanks man.

is the supplemental information sent electronically or do you have to mail it because I told my teachers they could upload recs online.

I mailed all of my supplemental info. (3 letters of rec., sat scores, and high school transcript) but your teachers and counselor can upload everything also

Just wondering…
I’m an Korean Junior, I’m not financially disadvantaged or not severely at least, and I go to a above average charter school with around 4200 other kids (total not just juniors) my grades for math and physics are all A’s im taking BC and physics C right now but prior I took honors chem, honors bio, honors physics (kind of a stupid prerequiste at school). I’m gonna get 1 amazing, 1 great, 1 average recommendation letters. my psat was 156/160 cause they only asked for cr and math I have 800 780 780 on Sat2’s and I’m waiting for my january Sat-R scores. I’m on the science/ oceans bowl team at school where I generally specialize in physics and mathematics. I spent the previous sumer at California state summer school for mathematics and science studying astrophysics and celestial mechanics and all that good stuff. My essays are probably alot better than the average applicants… I had about 17 drafts and help from writers and etc and my english teach told me she had no suggestions for my essays. Do I have ANY shot at getting into MITES?

Seems like you have a good shot. Your scores are really high, but then again, it seems as if too high of scores are a turn off. Also, I personally think the people who just say: “oh that looks like something im interested in, i’ll apply” seem to have better success than the people whose essays are drafted 17 times and have been so exposed to science that MITES is just another resume boost. Still I can say you are quite competitive, even as an over represented minority.

I have a question about the deadline…
It says that apps are due by Jan. 31. Does this mean 11:59:59 Jan. 30 or 11:59:59 Jan. 31?

haha but the sad thing is I actually needed around 10 drafts to get to an “average” essay I’m a 1st or like a 1.5 ish generation I came here when I was 7 and my parents speak korean at home so my language is ehh… not the best. I was soo happy MITES only asked for cr and math cause my lowest score on the psat was writing 71, but thanks for the advice. I think the whole 17 drafts kind of took components of the “me” out of the essay so I’m gonna readd those and send my essays in. Thanks for the advice soydecali!

So, I just wrote one of the essays and when I counted the words, I could not help but smile when I saw 314. :)

@eobaggs ahahaha that’s funny. Did you truncate your essay though (since it said 300 words or less)?

@chowaznmein: Indeed, I truncated (nice use of AP Comp. Sci term  ) it down to 300 words exactly. :)

1 down, 3 to go. :)

Any answers to my question?
