MITES 2012 Information and Discussion

thanks for the info knitswim! really appreciate it.

yeah i agree with knitswim. i was worried at first about scores because mine sit me right in the mkddle of the pack but after doing some research on cc and pming a couple people, i found out scores ply shockingly minute role in the admissions process. i belive they are more of a qualifying factor that can easily be negated or bypassed by your outstanding situation (eg: immigrating from africa, which is a cool story by the way, i would love to hear more)

anyway, a wide wide range of scores have been accepted over the years so quite frankly, dont worry about your scores. again focus on lletting them know how much this program means to you and how unique your life is.

finally, realize that while we are all viable out standing applicants, there is still an 8% acceptance rate. most of us wont get in and admission is kinda a crap shoot. we will all achieve our dreams may they be th ivy league or mit because mites is not the end or beginning of the road for us. it is merely an asset in already accomplished lives.

alright im done ranting. time to work on my essays

anyone having problems editing the “recommendations” part of your app? i forgot to add a prefix for one of my recs (a required field), and i click edit > change it > save, but it does not change at all…i tried a numerous amount of times.

ambitious1: You say you just moved 4 years ago from Africa… are you currently a US citizen? If not, you aren’t eligible for the program. If you are, then I say apply! None of us truly know what the MITES adcom is looking for.

@knitswim and karlfrazier0236 thank you!!
@coffeeandtea I’m a permanent resident

finished my app! relieved…now time to wait for my teacher recs

@ambitious1: Oh, alright, awesome. Good luck then!

@yaya2295: Lucky! I still have a ton of work to do because I’ve been worrying more about the SAT on Saturday as of late.

is CHINESE minority?

So did anyone figure out the situation about parents’ education level.

@nevadakid chinese, or asian, yeah counts as a minority; anything but white protestant counts as minority pretty much

math teacher just got appendicitis
hasnt written my rec
doesnt care for me all that much anyway
deadline next week
whoo boy…

Final week before the deadline!

Gah… why is this application so freaking stressful? Oh, wait. That’s right. None of my teachers have time to submit their recommendation online…

It’s so awkward asking the same teacher the same thing over and over every single day…

So I haven’t really done my essays yet because of the SAT… but now I’m done! I don’t have real school on Monday, so if I do all of my work tomorrow I can spend the whole evening writing my essays.

I’m not finished with my essays either. I have like 750 word essays and can’t seem to cut them back any further. . . and am also missing 2 letters of rec

-well, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! 6 DAYS & all this APPLICATION stress will be poof

Quick question: Is the app due on the 3rd at 11:59PM? Or at 12:00 AM?

Neither. Got extended to February 10th at 11:59 PM. Thank god.

Really!? Why doesn’t the website say it?

The OEOP website says it, idk why the reg website doesn’t.
