MITES 2012 Information and Discussion

haha I love our FB group chat. :p

i’m really afraid that even if I were to get in, I would just die under the workload. I really want to go into stem, but they’re definitely not always my strongest subjects. I mean, I guess I’m above average, but I’m by no means some sort of savant. I haven’t really had much exposure to engineering and i think i’d gain so much from mites, even if i couldn’t bring much to the table in the first place

gahhhhhhkdsafj;sdijfodsjf

PS, YOLO is genius. Drake is genius. He just, gets me, you know? *sarcasmsarcasm

wouldn’t if be a beautiful thing if we were the only ones who applied and they accepted all of us?

ps, creeping on all of your facebooks (BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC…)

((wow guise, so many private pages lawlz))

anywho, I’m Lizzy and requested membership

I’m hoping that the applicant pool decreased and they accepted a higher number of people for E2, MOSTEC, and MITES :)

One can hope…

So about 80 people get into MITES and 60 gets into E2?

that would be a dream come true…chances are even more people applied this year and the acceptance rate probably went down :S…

In 2011, I think 80 people got into MITES, 60 into E2, and 60 in MOSTEC.
So the overall acceptance rate was about 13.33%.

Chances are, if apps are up, they’ll accept more into each program - maybe like 2 or 3 more each max.

13.33 % ? Wow, most colleges have a higher acceptance rate than that :/

Keep in mind that MITES admissions themselves had a 5.3% acceptance rate last year.

5.3 percent is scary >.<

It makes me want to print off a ■■■■■ face and tape it to my wall…

What’s E2 and MOSTEC? Are they supposed to be good programs too?

yup im definitely not getting in.

Don’t worry guys, I was not an amazing STEM student besides computer science and Physics (CS is just where I excelled and I didn’t even take that elective at MITES). I’m traditionally good at literature, and my intellectual pathology would lead you to believe I’m an english major, creative writing major, etc. Don’t worry about that it’s hard, it truly is they’re cramming MIT caliber classes into 6 weeks but it is definitely do-able. Don’t psyche yourselves out.

Yeah the acceptance rate is low, it was the lowest out of any college (if you ranked MITES a college) until Harvard dropped to 3% this year which we got 17 people in from our MITES class :). Just relax guys now is not the time to worry, just continue beasting through your junior year.

@sesamesesame What is the Engineering Experience at MIT (E2@MIT) program?

E2@MIT is a one-week residential summer enrichment program during which students complete short project course in an engineering field, attend admissions and financial aid sessions, tour labs, meet with MIT faculty, students, and alumni and participate in social events. Through this program students are exposed to a demanding academic atmosphere, and are introduced to the value and reward of pursuing advanced technical degrees and careers while developing the skills necessary to achieve success in science and engineering.

What is the MIT Online Science, Technology, and Engineering Community (MOSTEC) program?

MOSTEC is a 6-month online enrichment program that provides students with an engaging experience that extends from the fall into the early spring when they submit their college applications. Via this online community, OEOP staff provides students with exposure to MIT faculty and staff, information about admissions and financial aid tips, opportunities for discussions about science and engineering research, opportunities for mentorship and to share their own research with peers and professionals. MOSTEC students have also the opportunity to attend a 4-day conference at MIT.

In my opinion, MITES is definitely the best program but they are all good.

Absolutely. If you (or I) got into any one of the three, we should be excited :)

17 people got into Harvard from MITES?

That makes me want it more >.<

i need to come up with a rejection playlist nyahhhhhhhhhh

Quote from Harvard Admissions
“You did not get into Harvard because you got into MITES, you got into MITES because you could get into Harvard”

Don’t think MITES will make or break your college decisions. It helps, but the only college where it will help substantially is MIT.

These last 2-3 days are going to be horrible >.<

Foreshadow of next year…?
