I waived… What is this I read about score reporting. I was not asked for any such thing. Isn’t the self-report enough?

Yea, I didn’t know about it either but I received an email a couple days ago titled “MITES Program [Urgent]”

Here’s what it said:
“You are receiving this email because we still need the following information/documents to complete your MITES application: PSAT, SAT, PLAN, or ACT scores.”
And then it gave me instructions on faxing/emailing the documents to them.

I was totally surprised to get this since the application was due so long ago! I typed in my scores in the application, so I don’t really know why they asked for documentation…maybe for verification.

@IuvenilisAnimus: Yep, documentation is kind of key. They could trust us to have integrity and not lie, but there ARE people who would just put 80 and 800 into every PSAT/SAT slot.
I actually sent them my transcript just about a week or two ago, though that was because my school didn’t have it ready until then.

I like how the OP is nowhere to be found…

if we do not get an email for score verification, does that mean we are pretty much rejected already?

No, they just probably didn’t submit it in the first place

I waived my right for MITES, but afterwards my teachers wrote letters to other programs and asked me to check over to see if everything was right.

This is really helpful, since I have a good idea now which teachers write unique things about me rather than just generic compliments.

Yeah, I feel like I should’ve waived my right. This would’ve been helpful especially when it comes to college apps. But oh well, I trust they wrote good things.
And now we wait…

I emailed them and they said that decisions will drop no later than April 15th and most likely ON April 15th.

I ain’t even frum da hood, but all dis swervin’ on ther part is throwin’ me off my game dawgs. No wat I’m sayin…!? Tryin mah best to chill da f* out, but da suspense is too much cuh. Dey best accept my a* cuz they gon miss out on all dis swaggah. Peace!!!

Do you think MITES will try to bring geographic diversity into play? Also, I looked at the MITES group picture from last year and there seems to be quite a number of Asians.
Are they mostly South Asians or they don’t really take that into consideration…
I don’t see many Asian guys but there’s a number of Asian girls o.O

Ugh geographic representation will mean 2 per state or less…It’ll be like RSI all over again except targeting minorities

@Rivstein, you seem to be an active poster… What are your particular stats, awards, ecs, and hooks?

I’m active because this is the only program I applied to. I can’t afford to do anything during the summer and this is my last hope. I don’t care if I have to fundraise in order to buy the plane ticket, I really want to go. I would apply through QB, but I’m queued at about 30th in line for a counselor recommendation (they’re making all the seniors apply to college and we only have one counselor). By the time I get my “low priority rec”, the deadline will have passed.

A lot of you have one or two back-up plans; consider yourselves lucky.

Wow your scores are decent enough for your ethnicty
Puerto Rican URM - nice o_O
School sends 26% to college… Uhm I think you have a good chance

@Rivstein, I’ve looked into QB, what summer programs does it offer?

Can you tell me if I have a shot or they are going to throw my App to E2 or MOSTEC?
Income <20k, South Asian, First generation both sides, Qualified for free Lunch, No STEM in family history…
ACT score is average in MITES yea 36 math 36 science though, English is very weak but I write decent essays o.O
although 99% sent to 2-4year college at my school because i qualified for financial aid and merit scholarship for my priv. school… I pay like 2000$ which is pretty much food and lab fees/Clubs/etc.,Should I email and tell them right now? It’s kind of late though
- a bunch of STEM awards and etc.
- lots of APs (8 after this year) and 15 total next year

My one or two back up is SIMR and SSP

@Riv: I didn’t apply to anything else either. It’s this or a job.

Why didn’t you guys apply to SAMS or SSP? SAMS is free and SSP ask everyone to apply regarding of tuition cost.

I’m not first gen, but I’m Hispanic, my mom is from El Salvador! I’m worried about my rec letters, I feel like my teachers didn’t really know what to put and just summarized my accomplishments:/ does anyone know if we can send in extra scores as we get them? I got a 240 on the PSAT that I wish I could have included…

@Alpha: I don’t particularly want to attend any summer program that isn’t MITES. I can’t explain it, but MITES just seems to be special and wonderful, while the others don’t seem to be worth giving up my summer. If I don’t get in, my summer will be (compared to any other program) better spent spending time with my friends, working, and … well, shirking responsibilities/having fun :p

Just to clarify the admission process, i.e how you get chosen.

First the MIT admission committee select the top 200 ( last year number) from the applicant pool. Then those 200 are pass to the MITES office. They will pick the 80. The rest are then selected for E2, MOSTEC. So they will only consider your app for MITES at the first look. You won’t automatically be in the E2 or MOSTEC pile.

@DangitDang, what about those who have no hooks? Do those get thrown to the side? Since I’m sure RSI kids apply to MITES to and those who have perfect scores and stuff.

You guys think there is any chance of them increasing the number of participants?
