Dear Applicant

The Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES) Program actively seeks out students who demonstrate bright promise of ability and interest in science, engineering and technology. As the demand for MITES grows, the selection process becomes increasingly competitive. This year the selection committee has completed the effort of carefully reviewing over 1,750 applications to this year’s summer session. Our selection was not solely based on academic achievement (i.e., test scores, grades, class rank), but a host of other factors that are aligned with the program’s objectives.

We believe that you are a highly talented student who shows great promise in science and engineering. Due to the limited number of students that we can admit into the program, we were not able to admit you for this summer. Despite this decision, we encourage you to continue to seek out enrichment opportunities in preparation for a career in engineering or the sciences.

You may wish to visit our website: Enrichment Programs to inquire about other national and regional programs for high school students.

If you are considering applying to MIT please do not let this decision discourage you, as many students who are not admitted to the MITES Program are accepted to MIT as freshmen.

Thank you so much for applying to the MITES 2012 Program. We wish you much success in your future academic and personal endeavors.

Sincerely,
MITES Staff
