MITES 2013 Discussion

“Spirit worshipping accident!” Why are you hilarious?! Rofl I bet you’d get a full ride to every school in the world with that story.

I’m just mad because they claim you don’t need to be certain things, but they turn around and make the standards for second gen students insane. Maybe I should apply as Jesus Christ, Abraham, or Muhammad.

I keep getting emails that have “admissions” as the sender

I die a little every time I get one of those that’s not MITES

Yeah. My mom was the only parent that went to college as well. I hope this really doesn’t play too much of a role. Can’t they just accept us all? I wonder how many applied? Does anyone have a rough estimate?

Their website says they got 1500 applicants in 2011

So it has probably increased by then. You know I probably wouldn’t have found out about MITES if it was not for the fact my school was looking for a new teacher. Everything truly happens for a reason.

Does anyone know when they well send out the acceptance/rejected emails?! they don’t reply to their emails so I’m going crazy here. Ugh I just want to know so I can get on with my life ,

We feel your pain. From the looks of it, we’ll probably receive them between the 9th and the 16th.

1750 Applicants in 2012
2000 this year?

That sounds about right.

I’m hoping for MOSTEC and SIMR

@Alpha2014

If you get into MITES, you should definitely defer admission and help out the waitlistees.

Rivstein & Leviticus, You’ve just made my day.

Nashia1505, Essentially the same thing as Leviticus, Well sans the tour of glory, lol. To be honest, MITES is the perfect opportunity (in my mind) to study the things I’m interested in over the summer, and to get the MIT experience. But to be honest, it’s everyone else that’s going that makes me want to go. Where I live, I’m the only African American in the grade who’d taking all “high level” classes, and that somehow makes me white in their eyes >.> I seem to have acquired the title of “Whitest Black Guy”, because everyone here seems to think that anyone who’s ‘black’ is supposed to be some sort of basketball playing gang member, and I really hate that >.> Getting away from that over the summer would be nice.
(Yes, corny, but it’s true :P)

Oh as for what I want to do, I’m thinking Astrophysics would be an awesome major, but I’m also eyeballing EE/CS and Aerospace Engineering.

@Mobius Yeah. At first I wanted to go because of the school and the exposure to engineering, but finding out about the people, I knew I wanted I wanted to go
without a doubt.

Guys, we still have ~2 weeks. How do I cope…

I wish I could help. I’m on spring break and just have all the time in the world. I’d be insane if it were not for the fact I had to build 2ft catapult for when I return.

I’m getting pretty nervous/excited for this trial to end.

Watch the clock tick down.

^Epic. Let the waiting begin

@MobiusUno

I’ll be the first non-white valedictorian in our school’s history. I’m really pale; whenever I have to introduce myself in a class at the beginning of the year, my interesting fact is always: I’m 100% Puerto Rican, born and raised. Then I spend 15 minutes convincing them I’m not lying… When they found out I was ranked 1, they thought it was a typo. ***!!! What I’m trying to convey here is that I feel you man. One of my essays for MITES was about wanting to become successful in spite of my ethnicity and race, not because of it.
