Sounds like she may be saying the only FAR AWAY school she’ll let you attend is Bob Jones. There are other very excellent (and much more mainstream) Christian schools in California.

Pepperdine, Point Loma, Azusa Pacific, Westmont, Biola, to name a few in So Cal.

Could you give some more information so people can better assist you?
What are your SAT and/or ACT scores?
What type of schedule did you take (lots of APs, IB, honors?)
What type of major do you want to pursue?
Do YOU want to go to a Christian school?
What can your family afford? This is huge, because if your parents have the financial means to pay but simply won’t, you’re probably going to have a hard time getting enough financial aid to attend most schools.

Unfortunately, this is not true. Merit scholarships at the UCs are rarely (if ever) full rides, and need-based scholarships are only available to students whose parents can’t pay, rather than won’t pay.

Bob Jones is a for-profit university with National, not Regional, accreditation. This can limit your opportunities to transfer credit, get a job, or gain acceptance to graduate school.

There are a million and a half Christian schools in the country, including some truly excellent evangelical institutions (Grove City, Wheaton, etc). No offense to your sister, but Bob Jones, a for profit institution that teaches nonsense as fact, and has almost militaristic rules is not one of them. Quite frankly it doesn’t seem to allow students the freedom to truly test their faith that other, better schools do.

With your GPA and test scores you can do so much better. Any of the major, very religious California schools like Biola, Pepperdine, and APU are better than Bob Jones. You need to convince your mom that these close schools are worth a look. Btw, APU and Pepperdine will likely give you merit aid.

With the utmost respect SaraiV, of all the suggestions and helpful facts, all the cons put forward about Bob Jones, and all the very useful information regarding talking to your mom about going elsewhere, the ONE thing you comment on is that sentence^^!?!? I think you need to do some research about all the other Christian schools that were put forward- that also teach your beliefs in a more traditional setting.

BJU adopted more detailed rules prohibiting interracial dating and marriage—threatening expulsion for any student who dated or married interracially, who advocated interracial marriage, who was “affiliated with any group or organization which holds as one of its goals or advocates interracial marriage,” or "who espouse, promote, or encourage others to violate the university’s dating rules and regulations.

There are many reputable Christian schools, but Bob Jones is NOT one.

A few things:
The OP has not provided her test scores as far as I can see, nor her other information, so helping her find a college other than Bob Jones will be difficult.

Also, note that my post made no reference to the religious nature of Bob Jones University.
I’ll keep beliefs out of the argument.

Regional accreditation is necessary for many jobs and grad schools. If you transfer out of Bob Jones, most regionally accredited schools will not accept your credit. National accreditation, which Bob Jones has, does not have the same meaning as regional accreditation.

Let’s play fair. While BJU is a very Conservative college with strict rules, the ban on interracial dating was lifted over a decade ago. To my knowledge it has not been reinstated.

@gettinin. A college that promotes 21st century segregation/racism
Seems like a very valid point to bring up

You are going to an institution that publicly promoted segregation in the 21st century, and probably still does…are you okay with that.

You are going to a school that is not accredited, meaning your degree will be nearly worthless (did you and your family ever even research the school for your sister?)

You are going to a school with VERY strict rules, and close monitoring. Just read some of the horror stories. Your mom may not be there watching your every move, that school sure will be

If people go to that university it’s because they truly believe in God. Evolution is just a theory that has not yet been proven yet, in all public schools they teach it as a fact. Also, BJU publicly apologized for being so segregated. And, from what my sister says they aren’t segregated anymore.

So, yes we did research it because a lot of people we know attend that school. Therfore, we got advice from them and also researched the school online.

For a long time I felt that BJU was the right place for me to grow spiritually but then, my sister decided to attend that school so I changed my mind on attending that school.
