Mom of bride or groom dress suggestions 2021-2022

Agree…it’s lovely and not matronly at all.

Oh, that’s very different!!

I do think those with longer (or in this case high-low) jackets are less matronly.

I love palazzo pants, btw.

Could you do cherry or peach instead of beige (if you like those colors)? My attendants lived in different cities and I sent them a picture of my dress and a range of color samples and asked them to get a long dress that they liked anywhere in the color range. They luckily ended up in peach, cherry, and cranberry.

My mother, as noted elsewhere, was also in white.

That’s a really good idea. Thank you! Fortunately I have plenty of time to test out shoes!

I don’t think it is all that horrible if MOB/MOG look a bit matronly. It’s a day to focus on the bride/groom and bridal party. No problem if people disagreen here… just adding my perspective.

How about buying separates and mixing some colors? Matchy matchy sets, unfortunately, can look matronly.

sevmom - I love that blush pink dress you posted! The delicate, transparent white overlay with tiny dots looks like it would work beautifully with the delicate flowers!

I like green, almost all shades. But since you don’t, I’d consider a golden color. My friend has blonde hair and ordered fabric in this shade. Terrific. But I don’t see why any shade of pink wouldn’t work. (Personally, I don’t wear blush, as it washes me out, nor pink bubble gum, but anything in between.)

Oldmom, my GF, also a MD, has awful feet after a few surgeries. She now wears sparkly sneakers all the time. My cousin switched from heels to sparkly sneaks. No reason to just find the fancy sneaks and be comfortable.

Yes - this site has a lot of sparkly, cute sneakers (used by brides but good for any dressy occasion it seems!)

Alas, just one style (out of 20 and not sparkly or blingy) in my size. I do have go-to websites for sparkly sneakers and will keep that idea in mind. Maybe consult with my daughter the bride when we talk about MOB dresses.

I recommend periodically checking RealReal; designers made quite a few sparkly shoes for both men and women in the past couple of years!

Not currently in your size but these WERE available in Women’s and Men’s sizes big enough for your tootsies!!!

A few years ago we attended a lovely outdoor wedding in rustic area (then dinner in a tent, dancing in converted barn). Near the end, the bride lifted her dress to reveal her very casual Teva rafting sandals. I said, “oh - smart to change to something comfy for dancing”. She then explained she’d had them on all day due to the rocky terrain walking out to the outdoor ceremony area (chairs, trellis etc). Under the big formal wedding dress skirt the sandals were concealed from view.

I couldn’t tell you what kind of shoes my dil wore under her wedding dress.

But if I had to guess, it was some kind of Sketchers as that is the only brand of shoe I have ever seen her wear.

I guess that is the luxury of a long dress, the ability to wear any kind of shoe you want

The nice thing about wearing a long dress is the ability to wear flat or comfortable shoes. I have a bad knee and a high heel wouldn’t have worked. My youngest daughter wore a pair of sparkly platform keds under her wedding dress.

I don’t have my exact dress yet but whatever I pick will not be long. 5 pm garden, country inn wedding, cocktail attire. I’ve done research and seen lots of examples of ballet flats, etc.with midi/tea length dresses so that is the direction I will likely go. The wedding will be outside, and the reception will be under a large tent outdoors. But , it is a large property with lots of dirt and grass on many acres (and the rehearsal dinner and outdoor welcome reception will also be on the property), so I don’t want heels but don’t want sneakers either, so will be looking at some kind of flat.
Good luck to all with shoe shopping! Dress and shoe shopping are really not my cup of tea but I am trying!

I have a cute pair of ballet flats that I take to weddings to wear for the dancing part. You will have fun finding a pair!

I’m glad you know what you want and what you’ll feel comfortable with. I suspect many MOB/MOG spend a wedding uncomfortable or wishing they made a different choice. Your daughter doesn’t want an imposter at the wedding - she wants her MOM and not someone out of her fashion element!!!

So many people are Rothy’s fans….if you’ve ever thought you might like a pair, maybe this is a good time to try a pair - you can wash them if they get dirty at the venue!!
