My daughter and her friends are all wearing short, cocktail style dresses to prom this year. Is this some kind of new trend? I assume the guys are still wearing tuxedos (as opposed to a suit and tie). Are corsages still in...or is that passe too? (My daughter refuses to wear one--what's up with that?)

Dunno. My school is still in with the long dresses and corsages. Don’t know anyone going with a cocktail dress. Those are usually homecoming-styles.

Short dresses look so young and fresh. And they can wear it again! Have you seen prom dresses lately? They look matronly and dowdy. Agree with short dressy sassy dresses. Maybe a flower for her hair or pinned to her handbag? Corsages are old fashioned and an unnecessary expense. Usually the boy’s mom makes the guy get one for his date. Agree with the daughter-no corsage, maybe a pretty bracelet.

My school has a good mix of both short and long dresses. I think it gives a good variety I know I’d look ridiculous in a long dress because I’m very short, haha.

We still do corsages though, I think they are a nice touch, but not a necessity.

And guys are most defiantly still wearing tuxes.

Yeah you see both.

But definitely corsages and boutonnieres, and all guys wear tuxes.

Short prom dresses sounds like an oxymoron.

my prom was last friday…mostly short dresses and corsages were nowhere to be seen…a few flowers in the hair though…lol

my dress is long. it depends on a person’s liking…i suppose

most people at my school are wearing long dresses…no poofy ones though…and def corsages and boutineres and a tux for guys. a lot of peoplewore short dresses at junior prom though.

Long. About 98% wear long dresses. THere are only a few oddball short dresses…they look REALLY out of place.

Homecoming dresses are long as well. But only about 80%.

All the other dances are short dresses only (unless you’re crazy enough to get ANOTHER long dress).

Why can’t you wear a long dress more than once?

because there’s very few occasions to wear a long dress

I few like it’s school-specific. Looking back at last year’s prom photos, I see ONLY long dresses. This year, I think I want a short dress because they’re cheaper and cuter, usually.

We do corsages at my school at least… Well, I’d have to buy the boutonniere, which is not too expensive at all.

I meant to start a new thread…

IGNORE THIS.

No corsages at my school. Guys all wear tuxes. I saw one guy in just a dress shirt and tie and he looked a bit out of place. The girls wear a mix of long and short dresses, but I’d say short dresses are more popular.
I think part of the reason there are so many short dresses is because juniors and seniors go to the same prom (do they do that everywhere?). Juniors generally don’t care to wear a long dress.
Also, most long dresses are harder to dance in. I got a flimsy long dress for Homecoming and that was okay. And, longer dresses are more expensive. My short, almost mini-dress was $200. Long dresses in that store started at about $350. And I would have to pay for alterations because I’m only 5 foot 1. I can see why people go for short dresses.

my school definitely goes long and it looks more formal… we use short dresses for homecoming and thats it because homecoming is not as important as prom… obviously… but yes our school still does the boutinere and corsage thing but the girls usually wear their corsage on their wrist.
