Mom of bride or groom dress suggestions 2021-2022

Thanks! I like Nataya dresses(I found out about them through you). I almost ordered the sky blue vintage inspired one but didn’t . They have a 15 per cent restocking fee and you have to pay for return shipping. But, if this rose one doesn’t work, I may look at Nataya again. Ordering the rose dress now.

The Rose dress you are ordering reminds me a lot of the dress I wore to my older daughter’s wedding, but mine was black and more expensive but the style was very similar.

The Nataya dress I recommended to you reminds me of the Nataya dress (not same exact one) I wore to my younger daughter’s wedding, in navy and white.

Thought I would post these here even though it looks like the right dress is on the way!

I think that is a lovely dress. I just would be concerned that it is something one would wear as a guest versus the mother of the bride or groom.
If you can swing it or have a place you can do quick returns I’d order multiple dresses at a time. I found after a few rounds I learned what fabric I liked and what shape fit most comfortably. Zappos is nice that as soon as UPS scans it in they credit your card back.
The Alex Evening seems a bit more special. @soozievt you are the best at special occasion dress searches.

The AlexEvenings dress is very attractive and the brand has a good reputation.

I know we can’t ask about college stuff for kids that aren’t our own. Can I ask for a dress suggestion for a friend?

I don’t actually want a specific suggestion but rather guidelines.

She is the mother of the groom but also an ordained minister who will be officiating at the ceremony. So, wearing two hats that day! I think she prefers a long dress, but I am concerned about how that is going to look with a portion of the dress hanging lower than her officiant’s robe. And also thinking about the dress neckline for the same reason. I know there will likely only be one or two photos of her in her officiating gear, but I just feel like a long skirt hanging beneath the black robe is going to look odd. It’s a May wedding, and she wants to wear a periwinkle blue (or maybe navy). She also wants a bit of bling, and I worry about that on the skirt portion as well. On the one hand, I hate that the robe might interfere with what she truly wants to wear, but on the other, I’m worried about how it’s going to look.

Thoughts?

I was amused by the description from Alex Evenings on the Dillard website:

Our designs are CAMERA-READY. Images of your next special event will be with you for a lifetime, so we take extra care to create dresses that will help you appear stunning in front of the lens.

I would not let the robe stand in the way. She should go with whatever dress she wants to be showing up in the majority of photos.

@mom60 Well, now I’m really confused! When I search *mother of bride" - even though I’m mother of groom- on both Dillard’s and Nordstrom websites, the rose dress I just ordered comes up. I’ll see how it looks when it arrives. I’m sticking with ordering only 1 or 2 dresses at a time for now. That’s all my mind can handle right now!

Oh, I now see you’re talking about the blue dress I mentioned. I did not order that one, just the rose one. Thanks for your input!

@Hoggirl a family member officiated at some family weddings. She changed clothes into her “wedding reception” clothes after the ceremony ended. So…the dress was not worn under her vestments.

I was referring to the solid Adrianna Papell. not the Alex Evening you ordered. That is definite MOG or MOB.
You should wear what you feel comfortable in. I ended up with no bling, sparkle or lace for two of three weddings. The last one only had a tiny sparkle broach on one side. I tried on a lot of lace and beads but in the end they weren’t comfortable for me. I did have long dresses which I think distinguished me from just a guest.

Sorry, I realized you were talking about the blue dress. I was editing my post probably when you were writing yours! Thanks again!

When I’m an officiant at a wedding, I honestly don’t worry about part of my garment hanging below the robe. It looks like a graduation gown over an outfit and perfectly fine. I agree that she should wear what gives her joy. It will all be perfect!

By the way, when officiating a wedding, I always ask the happy couple if they have a preference on what I wear. Some want me to wear a robe while others definitely DON’T. If they prefer no robe, I ask if they have any preference on my attire—dress or slacks and dress accordingly, generally something fairly neutral. I also ask if they want me to wear a silk lei (spare them the expense of acquiring me a lei which could trigger my allergies). Just a few more options I like to offer the couple.

The officiant at my son’s wedding was a formal roommate. She looked professional in the robe, then partied and danced in a youthful dress.

I’m getting lots of dress ads on facebook, and actually it’s rather fun. I thought this one was pretty (especially in the Iris Blue color), though not sure how comfortable

Just popping back in to say that my friend (I have to live vicariously through friends and on this thread since ds has no SO) thought the changing from the vestments was a great idea. She had wanted me to help her look for dresses for her MOG role as she isn’t much of a shopper. She wanted long and periwinkle, and I found this one that she was going to order last night. The same style also comes in a midi length.

The MOG wore that dress for my D’s wedding. It’s lovely, she said it also was very comfortable. I think it also looks good on a wide range of body types.

I tried that on for ds1’s wedding. Lots of people loved it, but it wasn’t as comfy as I wanted.

I haven’t looked on the Macy’s site for awhile and noticed this dress. Hadn’t seen it before. It is on sale but that is not my main concern as it is well below my budget of $300 or less. Are Anne Klein dresses good quality? There are no reviews. 5 pm garden wedding, cocktail attire. Stepmom of bride is not wearing a long dress either.
Any thoughts on this dress? https://www.macys.com/shop/product/anne-klein-twisted-metallic-mesh-dress?ID=13291071&CategoryID=5449
The wedding isn’t until May so I have time but this is harder than I thought it would be. I wish I enjoyed shopping more!
