mom60 - so many great choices here! I like the one you picked from soozievt that has the pink ruffle - elegant, yet fun!
You may have enough but I noticed this - a little blingy on the top, but it seemed like the lines (and coverage in back) might be something along the lines of what you are looking for…
Lots of us have worn the Alex Evenings embellished a-line gown that @thumper1 linked. The back is a V, but high enough that it covered my bra/panty shapewear. Very forgiving style, machine washable, sparkly but not too bling. I bought violet, though really a lighter navy. Very comfortable for an outdoor August wedding in Michigan.
Fit well enough that it needed no alteration, my shoes had a one inch wedge heel.
I’m looking forward to trying it. The one I ordered looks to have a bit higher back. All the dresses should come while I’m away so won’t be able to try them on till I get back.
I considered that Alex Evenings dress, as well. The fit was great, and it was very comfortable. I ended up with another dress, though (one Vanna White later wore on the Wheel!) - it was an amazing shade of cobalt blue that was very flattering on me. For me, color is another factor in picking a dress.
2VU0609 - yes!! I thought of this thread immediately the first time I saw Katie Couric’s dress. So fun, colorful, youthful, and pretty. The only tiny hesitation I had was - it was so eye-catchingly adorable I wondered if it distracted a bit from her daughter’s elegant wedding gown lol.
Yes, Katie’s dress was stunning. Although we are the same age, we are not the same size, so that one wouldn’t have been something I would have considered when I was picking MOG & MOB dresses years back. I loved the beaded & embroidered long sleeved sheath in the post she shared. I gave up my hair color when the pandemic hit, so I feel 10 years older than how Katie looks; on the other hand, I’m off the hamster wheel of 3 hours in the stylist’s chair every 4 weeks now. I probably would have kept up my color if I were an upcoming MOB/MOG. I think good hair is just as important as a good dress for the pictures and D always said pictures are forever!
Yes, her hair looks really cute here too. Then again, her job is still in front of the camera to great degree (instagram account, etc.). So maybe she can deduct the (likely) exhorbitant hair salon costs…?
I wonder about that on some of the “MOB” dress ads I see. The styles (ha and models) don’t always seem appropriate for a day where the bride/groom are the main focus. But the Katie dress not as dramatic as the ones that make me roll my eyes.
I’m no fashion critic but I have to say that I didn’t love Katie Couric’s dress.
I thought it was a little too young looking for a woman of her age albeit one who looks really good for her age.
I’m not thrilled with strapless on mature women, I thought bubblegum pink is too sweet looking. The embellishments are quite a lot. As someone remarked I wonder if this dress was taking attention away from the bride. It’s a statement dress.
But saying all that, the dress I’m sure was very expensive and fit her very well. And if she felt good in it, then that’s all that counts!
I once attended a wedding where the MOB wore a gown that was head-to-toe, peach sequins. It looked like a pageant gown. The MOG (my friend ) wore a red skirt suit. I personally would not have chosen either one of those outfits. I can’t imagine how terrible they clashed in photos both in terms of color and style. But, it was clear to me that the bride must have simply said, “Wear whatever you want.”
I think Katie Couric’s dress is cute, and she looks great in it. But it isn’t what I think of as a MOB dress.
As long as the bride is cool with it, the moms should wear whatever floats their boat. Of course, they need to be sure the bride really is okay with it. My friend had to return the dress she bought because her DIL wasn’t on board with the color. Friend got over it quickly & found another (lovely) dress. I definitely would have changed to a different dress if my D had hesitated at all about mine.
my mother wore a golden yellow tye-dyed long dress to my wedding 41 years ago. Actually it was her wedding, as I had no say so about much of anything. It was her event, and I just showed up! My bridesmaid were a pink/mauve dress, so while my mother’s dress didn’t blend, she was happy with her look. I can not even tell you what color my MIL wore without looking at my wedding photos; I don’t care now and didn’t then.
When my son and DIL got married, my DIL insisted I wear whatever I wanted. The bridesmaids wore navy as did her mother; I wore black with some rose gold trim. My daughter has a say so in the dress I wore for her wedding, but only because she wanted to make sure I looked good! I picked out a few dresses and showed them to her; in the end, we both liked the same dress. I will most likely wear it again to a friends daughter’s wedding which will be 6 years to the day after my daughters assuming I can still fit into it.
@sevmom an Alex evenings tea length dress was suggested on that other thread. I can say first hand…they are very comfortable dresses, and the price point is decent. Mine was machine washable. I can heartily recommend that!
Yes Thanks, I’ve been looking at Alex Evenings and Adrianna Papell(not much in tea length). I think the bridesmaids dresses will probably be champagne colored Adrianna Papell.
I had an Alex Evenings dress for daughter’s wedding 5 years ago and loved it… very forgiving for the big belly I had at the time. The particular style# no longer available, but I found the link/photo in old emails - Access Denied
There are a bunch of us on this forum that wore Alex Evening dresses…some the exact same dress but in different colors. Their prices are really modest, and I loved my dress.
