Such great options! Would something like this work?
($89!!!)
I meant to add, don’t get anything too flowy and fluttery, or you’ll spend your time clutching your skirts to keep them from flying up in the breeze from the ocean. It can get strong!
My son is getting married in April. This is the third date that we picked after two delays during Covid. My experience is that the stores have nothing. I even went to three high end department stores in NY and the pickings were few. The associates there told me to wait until October as things were just starting to come in. Many dresses that I wanted to order on line were out of stock. So if anyone can wait I would suggest doing that.
EmilySpinach - did you get a dress?
Wondering about online options? There seem to be tons of those, although some people prefer the in-person experience…
@EmilySpinach - ordering online seems to be the best way. But it’s not the most optimal in my opinion.
I’ve ordered several dresses thus far - returned a couple. Have a couple more to return. Waiting for some additional dresses that I ordered to come in (sometime next week). Then will decide and return the ones I don’t want. Some of this could have been easily avoided if I’d been able to see the dresses in person !
A lot of the dresses I liked (@soozievt suggestions) are not available in my size. Definitely a bummer.
I did get a dress. I ordered it on line. I do prefer trying on in the store, it’s so much easier and there is no waiting. One dress I had been following for months finally was available in my size. I ordered it and I couldn’t wait for it to come. It was hideous on me. It looked great on the model, no surprise.
“It was hideous on me. It looked great on the model, no surprise.” - Ha, me and probably others nodding about memories of similar.
At a recent wedding another guest told me her dress was customized from this site. All of their dresses can be customized.
Hers looked nice and I like some of the options here. Has anyone tried this site?
Macy’s has quite a number of nice dresses on sale.
Saw that… made me wish that son and fiancee had been able to find their summer 2022 Boston venue/dates. But not yet. As others have probably found, it’s even harder than usual to arrange a venue with so many weddings deferred due to covid. It’s fun to look at all the links here while I wait
I have looked at their dresses and like some of their styles. I have been hesitant to order something though because I like to try things on. Has anybody ordered something from them?
I like the concept. The woman who introduced me to to the site looked very nice in the dress she had chosen.
The dress was not my cup of tea but not sure what there is about it that is so bad?
I ordered numerous dresses this time around. The stores have little to no dresses in stock. It’s not ideal to order online but that is just how it is.
I try to only ordered from places that offer free shipping and returns.
This round I’ve ordered from Zappos, Amazon (canrerurn at Whole Foods), Macy’s ( I have a local store so returned in person), Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks off Fifth. The only one without free returns was Saks off Fifth but I was able to return at a nearby outlet mall. I lost count at how many dresses I ordered. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection from Macy’s.
Luckily I already have shoes that work. For shoes Zappos can’t be beat for ease of ordering and selection.
sevmom- same. I don’t know that an older woman w/bare shoulders is so bad!
I have already had lots of anxiety about choosing a MOG dress for next May! I am no fashion plate, don’t normally wear makeup ( haven’t for decades), have never dyed my hair. That others would be judging me( I’m not naive and know that we all do it) but could even post my picture in a negative way without my knowledge does nothing for my confidence and anxiety level!
It wasn’t the nude shoulders that caught my eye but rather the nude illusion under the otherwise fun cut outs. Very red carpet!
Looks more white than nude to me but what do I know. I don’t care for the dress but I’m guessing the mother put thought into her choice and thought she looked marvelous. The things that I will never get are mothers, guests wearing something that could pass for a wedding gown, or wearing a dress that is bound to upstage a bride.
Her bare shoulders look fine, and she’s got the body for the dress. That said, the color is not my cup of tea, and the illusion cutouts look cheap. If it was a solid dress (same shape) with an overlay of sequins or something like that to create a pattern like the one in the the cutoffs, she would have looked fab. And appropriate. IMO.
And there does not seem to be surety that it was MOG. And what the context was. Maybe green is a favorite color. Maybe she asked about wearing green in advance or showed people what she was wearing and there was no objection. I just still don’t see how it is not “appropriate.” I’m clearly missing something.
