I'm an English major and I'm currently completing my sophomore year at Montclair State University. I transferred here from a community college in the fall and I'm not that thrilled with the experience. I got into Rutgers New Brunswick for Fall 2013. I hope to get into a Ph.D program after I complete my undergrad studies and become a professor.
Although I don't like the school much, I have made a great connection with one of my English professors and I am doing very well in my classes.
I could suffer through the social side of MSU for the next two years if I knew that it wouldn't make a difference, but would my chances of getting into a Ph.D program improve if I transferred to Rutgers. I know that the school has higher rankings than Montclair.
Will transferring to Rutgers improve my chances for Grad School or should I stay at Montclair?

Can you ask your professors or advisor at Montclair that question? Have there been any students from the English department in recent years who have applied to PhD programs?

I suspect that it would be advantageous to apply to PhD programs from Rutgers rather than from Montclair St. I would guess that a much higher percentage of Rutgers grads go on to PhD programs than Montclair St. grads.
