More applicants this year than ever?

I hear that a lot of colleges have an abundance of applicants this year. Is this going to be the same for next year?

Why this year?

Really competitive this year. I almost didnt get into BC

The number of HS graduates will peak this year and start slowly going down. Expect to see fewer applicants at most schools following this.

At ivies and other top schools they are not expecting numbers to go down. This is for several reasons: financial aid initiatives, increased interest from internationals, the internet whereby more people know of the ivy league and so on.

^ Yes, but even though more are applying, that does not mean there will be more qualified students. However, more students mean more qualified students, meaning they have better chances. We should not be worried about more students applying, but rather more qualified students applying, which is a result of both advertising and a high borth rate for that year.

That was the simplified version;I don't feel like writing my whole explanation out. :)
