I'm scoring around low 600s on the SAT writing. I completely SUCK at identifying errors. What are just some advice to raise that score?

I know the grammar. I just need to tips. Hopefully tips that will give me more chance to pick the right error...

Hmm…

Writing was never my strong spot either, as I got consistent 600 on the practice tests.

January came along and I got a 760 (The last practice test I took before the test I got 620)

All I realized that I was doing different was concentration. Did you get 600s on the practice or real thing? Because as far as I’m concerned, there’s a HUGE difference.

yodel, I have! It’s just that I look at two answers and they both look like they have an error. BUT I PICK THE WRONG ONE

Study the different types of errors that show up. Be so familiar with these that when you do practice tests, you don’t just find what the wrong answer is but naturally can name exactly what the error is. Also, you can fix that sentence in your head to internalize the error even better. Hope that helps and good luck! (:

canadien, the first like half of the identifying errors I get them all correct because I’m so used to these types of questions, but it is the end that always get me! :(

The errors at the end are more difficult than the ones at the beginning (often more subtle). However, they are still definitely classifiable, so I think practice will still help you. I found that the Barron’s book was very useful for naming all the different errors.

I got 790 (77MC 11 essay) on the January test. I am good at grammar, but for the SAT Writing, just learn and really understand the dozen or so grammar rules pointed out very well by Mc Graw Hill and other books including the blue book. Master those, you’ll get 45+ raw score. For the essay, it’s important to use just one or two examples, but develop them relevantly and deeply. My 11 was built on 1 example developed fully and using every single line available.

I don’t know if the language is TOO causal, but I hope you can give some distinctive critique. Thanks

“yodel, I have! It’s just that I look at two answers and they both look like they have an error. BUT I PICK THE WRONG ONE”

If you’re picking, if you think there are two errors, you don’t really know the rules.

If you really want to improve with the error identification then i suggest you look at Silverturtle’s guide (It’s stickied)
