Most absurd college acceptances at your high schools?

don’t know him too well, but this year a USAMO winner (top 12 nationally in biggest math contest) got rejected from HYPSM.

Is it me or is this the most encouraging thread on College Confidential? LOL - It’s great to read about kids with half-way normal stats getting into good schools. Gives us all hope, no?

Please post some more!!!

Stupid blond white girl with an 1830 SAT got into Cornell. Not really great EC and a 3.3 GPA. The running joke was that she gave the adcom a BJ. lol

Lazy Asian kid with a 1940 SAT and 3.7 GPA got into Yale. Last Year I found out he dropped out and started doing meth and stuff…

someone shoot that asian kid, he took up a valuable spot in the asian quota and wasted it

MeSsIaH: Exactly!

Lol, I agree that this thread is pretty inspiring. But now I have to make sure I don’t use this thread as an excuse to start slacking off haha

4.0 GPA
2380 SAT
36 ACT
Captain of Varsity Cross Country/Tennis
Great Recs
President of like 10 clubs

Going to University of Maryland.

***.

MrSudden-My daughter thanks you for not applying to any of the schools she wants to attend!!!

MrSudden, being the president of 10 clubs hurts you. It shows you don’t have passion for any single thing and are just padding your resume.

Mr Sudden’s a ■■■■■? Suddenly there’s a ■■■■■?

Someone didn’t get into any UC’s but got into Cornell. I think there was a similar case in another school except the person got into Brown.

Am I the only person who finds it irritating when others (who aren’t in the position to) try to dictate who deserves admittance and who doesn’t?

^no, this thread bothers me as well.

I am sure there is some aspect that you guys are missing. Some people don’t like to gloat about their special achievements. Others may have the personality to succeed.

I got into Carnegie Mellon Comp Engineering with SATII math/science scores in the 500’s.

Erm whoops.

The physics teacher did not have us prepared for a test like that ( I know, it was actually my fault…, I was thinking the test would be like free body diagrams, problem sets, etc). I opened the prep book like a month before and was like… uh oh. I spent like the whole month studying for both tests. I come from an inner city high school. People thought I was a weirdo for being the only one taking those SATII tests. The school actually had to call me on the phone to make sure I was coming before hiring someone to watch me.

That was a stroke of luck there. It was really a dream come true for me. I was so happy.

that is shocking about the usamo kid…freaks me out!

I mean, there’s plenty of possibilities as to what went wrong. If he applied as an international, all of a sudden usamo winner isn’t that amazing next to all the imo gold medalists. Or his counselor said he was socially ■■■■■■■■ in the rec.

hahaha@counselor saying he’s socially ■■■■■■■■ in the rec

at my school, nothing too crazy’s happened.
there were a lot of ppl at the lower 25% range but still qualified, so yeah nothing too absurd.

Sometimes counselors actually do stupid stuff like that. My cousin was waitlisted at Princeton and his counselor told them that he wasn’t really interested and he wouldn’t go if he got in. He’s over 30 now, married with 2 kids, and his mother still complains about it.

that one would be hard for a mom to get over…
