Most Annoying Student Behaviors

Today in my summer class, someone was actually talking on their phone during the lecture! They were trying to be “subtle”, but they were obviously failing at it, because they drove EVERYONE crazy.

What the…?

Also, I can’t stand people who are manipulators during group projects (i.e. they say “oh yeah, I’ll do the work” - then they don’t do their part and blame ME for it).

I also hate it when people go out of their way to be “different”. I have no problem with people listening to indie bands, or dressing out of the norm, but if you do it just to go around and tell people, “I’m so unique because I don’t act like anyone else”, You’re asking for trouble. Being different comes naturally.

yeahhh, i’m done.

1.) People who talk bad about others and start drama

2.) Those who put off a paper until the last night and then post on their facebook, “OMG, I have a 10 page paper to write in one night this class/professor sucks!” (Protip: don’t procrastinate…)

3.) People who don’t take classes seriously…may or may not brag about their low grades. This was more prevalent in HS, but I’ve seen people in college do this. You’re PAYING for your education. Have fun, but don’t completely bomb all of your classes.

4.) Overly religious people that have very loud opinions about their religion. Okay, you go to church every other day and love Jesus. That’s fine, just don’t yell at me because I don’t.

I decided to revive this thread for the new semester.

Two things that have particularly annoyed me with people in my classes this semester:

1.) people who start to pack up and get ready to leave 5 minutes before the class is over. Not only is this rude and disrespectful to the professor, but it’s annoying to not be able to hear what the professor is saying over everyone getting ready to leave.

2.) people who talk through class. Not only have I had a major problem with people around me talking through class, but they’ll be making comments about the professor during class! I just think it’s completely crazy that this still goes on in upper level college courses!

Last I checked this was college, not high school!

^UGH. I hate it when people get their bags ready like 5 minutes before class is over. Totally disrespectful and distracting. I can’t stand it when people complain about their grades and they don’t even try…or people who always try and leech off of you for homework/test help. It’s like i’m trying to study, too.

Really? I don’t find that annoying I find it hilarious. That’s when you come in and counter act it with a witty atheist quote and if they get defensive it’s their fault for trying to shove their agenda down your throat.

my two biggest pet peeves:

-the one kid who CONSTANTLY has to play a very harsh devil’s advocate to every point made in a class discussion. I mean, I can understand raising questions to further a discussion, but that’s different from the people who clearly just like proving things wrong

longboarders. we’re on a mostly cobblestone campus, it’s LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS. and seriously, it’s like 10 minutes from one end of campus to another on foot, how much time is that piece of crap really saving you?

When you have a partner for something, but they don’t come to class to learn about the stuff.

Nah, that guy is awesome. As long as they are good at it.

Hello,

I am a student and I love to take part in debates and discuss over small issues like education and students. I totally agree that these days students have become annoying.

It annoys me when two classes are scheduled back to back in the same room and the people from the second class flood into the lecture hall before everyone has the chance to leave, creating a huge traffic jam and making it extremely difficult to leave. I have this one lecture where people from the next class literally come in before ours even ends and start occupying empty seats. It’s just obnoxious.

People who get overtly righteous about not drinking. I don’t mean like that guy at the party who politely declines a drink but still hangs out, talks, and enjoys himself, but I mean that guy who will not go anywhere that involves drinking, even if he won’t be pressured to drink.
People who brag about their partying habits.
People who complain about their workload.

^ Agreed, people who treat alcohol as the devils water annoy me.

Also people who become intensely active in animal rights activism once the get to college. It’s like they feel that since they are college students now they have to take the moral high ground and lobby for an issue.

Seriously, activism is just a phase.

@connoc- Some people just don’t like being around drunk people. As the child of an alcoholic, I hate being around a bunch of drunk people especially since I don’t really drink. I could easily see how someone raised how I was would hate being around any alcohol in general. Now… someone who is preaching about why you shouldn’t drink and that alcohol is the devil is a completely different story.

Students who don’t work. Seriously it annoys the crap out of me. Partially because a degree without work experience is practically useless (so college was almost a waste) but also because these students often are the ones who don’t understand why other students don’t have loads of time to hang out and do something OR they’re the ones who are constantly bragging about going on trips and having the newest shiniest things while we’re eating Spaghetti Os.

^ They could do ROTC.

I can understand not working during the semester, but students should at least have some kind of experience. I don’t understand it when people in my classes don’t know how to apply for jobs or say they have never done an internship. How can you not know- or refuse to believe- the importance of getting real-world experience during college?

^ pretty hard to get a job when you don’t have any job experiences. I’ve applied to numerous job openings back home, only got called back to 3 of them for an interview, and other people would be chosen over me because they have more experience than I do. The only “work” experience I have is volunteering, but apparently they’re always looking for someone with paid experience. Even entry level jobs require some sort of experience (in fact, even if you apply for an entry-level retail sales associate, it’ll say in their requirements “prior marketing experience” or something like that).

^ No luck with on campus jobs either?

^ Most students in poverty get little more than the Pell Grant. Which isn’t much.
