I think people should show the professor a little respect and pay attention. Even though it doesn’t affect me, I hate when people regularly are sleeping in class, watching movies, texting, or browsing random websites. Sure, It’s their money being wasted, but why take a class if you aren’t gonna pay attention and get a terrible grade at the end.

I agree with you in normal circumstances, but I understand what kindaslick89 is talking about. There are some people who have their own quirks, and then there are people who have quirks for the sake of having them. One of my friends falls into this category, and whenever her “thing” stops getting her the attention she wants, she comes up with something else. First it was not wearing shoes, then it was smoking a pipe, getting a tattoo, getting an industrial, and taking up free-running (though I never once saw her actually do this, she just talked about it).

It does all come down to perception, though. I think there are things that people do that are just because they like them that might come off that way. There’s a girl on my campus that uses a Buzz Lightyear backpack. I think that’s awesome, but I suppose someone could interpret that as trying to get attention.

I’m not talking about everyone. There are a few that don’t need to give their complete attention on the professor to be able to comprehend the lectures and get a great grade. Majority of the students are not able to do so, then complain that they got a terrible grade.

I apologize for generalizing my list and not giving a more specific annoyance, I’ve had a rough day and I’m very tired.

I should also had to my list; People that complain about their grades when they give little to no effort in class :D

I definitely find overt hipsters annoying. Unless you’re a hipster doofus like Cosmo Kramer - people like that I let slide. No joke, a kid in my dorm who’s path I ended up crossing a few too many times dressed in the following at almost all times: trench coat, khakis, newsboy cap, dress shoes, and a leather briefcase. To boot, he had an incredibly frayed and unkempt ponytail, Harry Potter glasses (only cool on Harry, sorry), and smoked tobacco out of a pipe like Sherlock Holmes. Once again…no joke haha. I’m wondering though if this would be categorized more as a hipster mentality or psychosis.

Personally I hate anyone that complains about their grades, IN CLASS. You have a problem with your grade? Thats what office hours are for. Don’t waste everyone elses time.

To touch on the idea of anime I love certain Anime. DBZ, Samurai X, Naruto, and a few more. However, as my friends have found out I love them, but unlike a few friends who love cars or baseball I don’t talke about it all the time or ever unless it comes up in conversation. Thats just me though and how I am with a lot of things.

I don’t really find it annoying when a student doesn’t pay attention in class cause its his/her money, but I think that if you’re not gonna pay attention then you should sit quietly and do your own thing. Don’t do something that will distract other people.

A girl in one of my classes last year had her phone go off twice in class, every day!! I’m really surprised that they teacher didn’t do anything about it. I had another professor that would throw you out for even looking at your phone, lol.

I don’t have a problem with people who have unique tastes. I do have a problem with people acting unconventionally to get attention. Another thing that is annoying is when people blame bad grades on the professor. Sure, a lot of times the professor can be bad and might have an affect on the grade. However more times than not individual effort is the problem, and not the professor.

Maybe that trench coat guy just wants to be prepared for when he’s 190 years old?

And those of you defending the weirdness-hater, the word you’re looking for is “affectation,” and I hate those too. But I think it’s part of the maturation process for a lot of people.

He was a nice guy whenever I spoke to him - weird but not malicious or anything. Perfectly benign. But he was rather awkward and aloof. I don’t think he was an attention seeker but rather he was just staying true to himself…whatever in God’s name he was lol

I can’t stand people who act like they’re better than everyone else. I am so SICK AND TIRED of hearing silly kids brag about how many AP classes they took. We’re in the exact same place now, so shut up!

Oh yeah and those annoying termites that are constantly on that high school mentality. You know, the ones who constantly gossip, involved in drama, want to know what every single person is up to, who’s dating who…Where in college and realize that. I excuse the college freshman, because like rymd said, there isn’t really a difference between high school seniors and college freshman…college freshman still have that high school mentality. But suprisingly enough, I’ve seen upperclassmen part take in that childish hs bs. It’s sad. Really sad.

I also can’t stand group projects (for the most part). Somehow, someone in the group will typically find an excuse not to contribute any work or effort to the assigned project, and the rest of the group (or even sometimes one person) will have to feel the burden of their laziness by picking up their portion of work.

@straightsjacket: Not to act like I am holier than thou, but im not like that. I dont do the hs drama bs in general. Im prety sure ive done it subconciously as I think its human nature to gossip no matter how big or small but there are just some in college who are ridiculous with it. Like everytime they open up their mouth its gossip.
