have you or anyone you know been severely injured during class? died?

During class? A couple of people have broken their bones in gym, and last year, a kid collapsed on the third floor of a building, but nothing life-threatening.

On the other hand, more than our fair share of people have been killed in vehicular accidents and suicides.

In 9th grade, this kid was benchpressing without a spotter and dropped the thing on his forehead.

During class? Hmm...well people in AP Bio were doing an experiment with carcinogenic stuff and they forgot to wear gloves...but that's all. Many have died from car accidents, drunk driving, etc.

One kid threw another through a window, hahaha. There was this trail of blood from the window to the health room.

Occasionally, kids get hurt during gym class or faint and hit their heads. It always seems to happen during a lunch period, and there's always a crowd of people watching them get carried outside to the ambulance. Luckily, no one's been severely injured.

Outside of school, though, during my sophomore year, one boy killed himself -- hanged himself in his basement. There's controversy that surrounds the incident, and it's possible that it was actually an accident, but IMO the original story -- that it was suicide -- is more likely. He had been bullied a lot, and it was a really humbling moment for everyone in the grade. I'm pretty sure that it changed most of us.

A girl from my 9th grade Geometry class died in a car accident outside of school. I didn't know her at all, but it annoyed me that the school's condolence letter said "a freshman" instead of, well, actually writing her name. What the crap, really. That and students who didn't know her taking advantage by skipping classes by going to the library for grief counseling/"free period". :/

This one female had an abrupt seizure in class when I was in 8th grade...

and also, I recall a minor once stabbed himself with a pencil... on the palm.

um... this happened this year in my first period some girl vomitted when we took our finals (she drunk alcohol) and in 3rd period a girl next to my classroom had a seizure and all the coaches from our hallway had to go and see if she was okay

^wow poseur that's violent.

In 5th grade, a street light fell onto the forehead of my classmate and onto my shoulder/neck. She survived, but I'm pretty sure she has a permanent scar on her forehead :(

God, Poseur, I didn't hear about that. Wierd.

Um, as for stuff at my school, there's not much. It's an all girls school, so I think that helps. I've seen a foot crushed by choral risers and a hand slashed up pretty good by a razor in Physics, but not much else. I mean, I have some scars from tech, but they weren't major, or anything.

a sophomore died this summer, crushed by his ATV :(

and technical theatre students have had their fair share of injuries. One even cut off the tip of his finger. ew.

^Yeah, tech can be rough, espescially when boys are involved.

Some boy techies at a local school recently got into a NAIL GUN FIGHT. Which is exactly what it sounds like.

We're not dumb like those guys, but we still sign complete liability waivers, because stuff happens when you're working with power tools, high-current electronics, heights, and heavy machinery.

This year, a senior accidentally shot himself. It was terrible. Also, in th past 5 years, we've had at least 10 injuries and 2 deaths from driving. I blame the fact that I live in Florida. WORST DRIVERS EVER!!!

lol this is interesting

In elementary school, some kid a grade above me broke his neck (or something around that area) during a 5th grade graduation rehearsal when he fell backwards off the stage. It wasn't really in the classroom, but it was pretty scary.

no serious asthma attacks? we've had several from a a few different people

During school surprisingly few accidents happen. There are always 3-5 people around the school year that faint at one point or another.
My PE teacher from 9th [ or 10th ] grade made us running 1000 meters in 5-6 minutes without any prior practice, afterwards a friend of mine collapsed, vomited and everything and all the teacher did was saying: "It's not that bad."
Almost two years ago a fith-grader lost his finger. Some older guy threw his keys across a fence, so the fifth-grader climbed the fence got stuck with his ring, lost his grip and well it's just natural that a single finger could not carry his weight, so he lost it. At the hospital they were able to re-attach it, though.

SWIM2^^^^

I agree. Florida has the worst drivers, ever.

We've had one kid throw himself off a bridge next to the school during lunch. Two girls killed in drunk driving accidents outside of school. Some explosions during Chemistry. An actor had a ladder fall onto his head -- he's got a pretty nasty scar from that, and we could see bone. Thankfully, he's fine now. And, as a techie, I've fallen off the stage and gotten decently injured.
