Most Important Moment in History

[quote]
What distinguishes Aristotle's importance from the Mongols's?
NOTHING. They are both equally important.
Therefore, I suggest you choose a moment in history that affected YOU.
Then no one could argue against its validity.

In that case, I could cite that the most important moment in history was when mom met dad, but that would be extremely self-centered. I think the question can mean whatever you want it to mean. I believe that the Mongols set up the rise of the West and Western ideals. China was centuries ahead of the west, but because of the Mongols and Temujin's death, The Mongols devastated China and spared the West. Gunpowder accelerated the West's firepower and made it stronger. I also thought about the the adoption of the scientific method as the basis of scientific thought as another plausible answer.

Well, there is the fact that aristotle has had more of an effect on the world than the mongol's ideas have. I don't think they're going to look at these answers with the Nietzche-like philosophy that you seem to have.

Ummm, I wasn't referring to the Mongols' ideals. I was saying that the fact that the Mongols opened up the Silk road, spared the West, and destroyed the east was important. If you want to refer to philosophical ideals, I believe that the Scientific Revolution was prob the most important revolution as it made scientists believe even the most "improbable" theories. If not, we would still believe that ether exists. Or one could argue about how Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, Freud's Id, Ego, Superego, or Einstein's Theory of Relativity affected the way we see the world. heh, postmodernism.

the French revolution

btw, for this 'essay' isnt the idea the one and only major point cuz their is virtually no space for any fancy explanation. the word limit makes it impossible to write more than a few lines about the important moment.

Hey Duskstamper...
I totally understand what you are saying.
But remember. This is a college application.
They want to know about YOU. They don't wanna take part in a debate.

my friend put when his mom and dad met, he was accepted

thank you so much for supporting my theory!
Jeesh...this debate must soon end.

the day i was born

hahaha...you can only say that if you're jesus or something

actually okytdy. . .

actually im not jesus and i did say it

gandhi's invention the doctorine of non-violence
by doing this, gandhi gave a weapon for leaders like mandela and MLK to fight racism, etc.

is that ok??

ATTENTION ALL PARANOID FREAKS,
i was once one of you........

ITS CALLED HUMOROUS INSIGHT!

I've changed my mind, The most important moment in history is DEFINITELY the day I read A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy :)

eh what yall think of mine? acceptable??

i think yours is great as long as you tell how non-violence affected/affects your life

do we really have to say why it affects us in our life?? i mean some of the posts don't necessarily affect ppl personally like the silk road and stuff? Maybe it does, thats why i'll think of something. :)

I put battle of tours too and i got in early

I'm thinking of putting down when the first woman went to college. Is that trite?

i said bosox win over the yankees was one of the most important culturally historic moments in our country. i took a total risk on this question, which i really think gave personality to my application and helped it stand out.

I put when Benjamin Franklin founded Penn in 1740... j/k lol they would tear up sum1s app if they saw that.
