I put "The conception of Jesus Christ"

How about you guys?

I put "The conception of Jesus Christ"

How about you guys?

I put the Wright brothers’ first controlled and sustained flight.

well I knew that most of the answers would be like “signing of the declaration of independence” “landing on the moon” etc. so I put something unconventional, and less serious honestly.

but I’d rather not post it…

Haha let’s hear it man (or woman?)

I thought mine was pretty unorthodox

I wanted to put the War of the Worlds radio broadcast, but in the end I wrote about the Solar Storm of 1859

the invention that lit the world and put the candle out of business - humphry davy’s first incandescent light in 1802

The first heart transplant done in the US, at Stanford U.
Quite a cheesy answer, but I talked about it in my “Why Stanford,” as that was one of the ways I learned about Stanford and became interested in it.
And my intellectual vitality was me comparing dissecting a cat for Anatomy class to performing surgery on a human, so it tied in well!

The Chernobyl catastrophe.

From a safe distance! :P

Billy Mills 1964 Olympic Gold Medal win at the 10,000 m; improving his time by 2 whole minutes and claiming one of largest upsets in Olympic history; all by training his mind with self-hypnosis

I also put the Wright Brothers’ flight, largely because it mirrored my intellectual vitality essay.

Same. Unless you’re a really big us history bluff, you’ll probably have no idea what the event was. x)

Wasn’t Jesus supposed to be immaculately concepted? What would there have been to watch? I wrote that I wanted to be a part of the women’s suffrage movement, and that I wanted to live to shout WE SHALL OVERCOME only a few decades later.

Lincoln’s assassination, just to see what the actors did.

Morbid, hmm.

I think mine was pretty unique. It wasn’t a famous historical moment, but still historical enough, I hope! Here it is:

Near the end of his life, William Bouguereau invited families to his house; he watched them play together as he painted them. These portraits became his last paintings. I would have liked to have been there, watching him draw inspiration from life and create some of the art that has most touched me.

My daughter’s idea of “an historical event” is Woodstock. And, because she’s a lover of music and peace, she wished she could have been there, feeling it symbolized a cultural movement that impacted an entire generation. Okay…so it DOESN’T sound like what Stanford might be looking for, ie; the typical ‘historical moment’ answers several of you wrote here. But, whaddyagonnado? It’s what she wrote. :)

hey what if I wrote 4,

@snoopyiscool - You want morbid? I put “the first successful test of the atomic bomb”.

I wrote that I would have liked to participate in the Panathenaic Festival in Ancient Greece. I figured it would be unique, and I’m pretty interested in the Classics and Greek culture.

^Something similar, I put the trial of Socrates – for its legal and philosophical value.

^ I thought about writing that too, actually. I also considered writing that I would like to go to one of the Greater Dionysia festivals to see some Greek theatre.
