thank you so much for supporting my theory!
Jeesh...this debate must soon end.

Well, does it support your theory if I said I got in because I put the Mongols as my answer? I think you can put whatever you want. They just want to see how you think. The most important moment in history does NOT have to pertain to you.

how would they know something new about you by it though? you must've put SOMETHING pertaining to you...or else it would defeat the purpose of the application essay.

okytdy: what YOU consider the most important moment in history says a lot about you...it says what you think is important...maybe not to you individually but important to the world community...

I said the most important moment in history was the evolution of cyanobacteria. :D

i agree shjanama77, but the former opinion you state wouldn't be straightforward to the reader, while the latter would appeal the applicant straightforwardly.

It shows one's thought process. I thought my answer was very creative and plausible. Hence the adcom might think I'm a very creative and intellectual person. The rule with essays and short answers are, "Show, don't tell." I showed my adcom what kinda guy I am.

I wrote about the invention of the internet :</p>

Al Gore! Kinetic, sorry, that was the first thing that popped into my mind.

But, yea. The Penn rep told me some horror stories with those short answer questions. I guess some ppl (paper app) typed it in 8 pt font and glued the answer onto the app..."You are trying to get me to like you...and those 8 pt fonts are not the best way to give me a good impression."

I wrote about the discovery of electricity and hows it has impacted the world.

The only thing is, Ben Franklin was the guy behind this (remember they kite and key thing?) Do you think Penn will think I'm trying to suck up too much? Because honestly, if it was someone else who did it, I would have still written about the electricity thing. Any thoughts?

hahaha. I didn't mention by whom or when because it's so uncertain.

I used font size 10pt. not bad :)

Once again Dunkstamper, i would have to state...that your method is so implicit that you take a risk of the reader not noticing your character....on the contrary...an explicit 300 characters would appeal you a great bunch more.

helloworld: i think thats a great idea... if you are a female. of course, if you weren't, you could probably twist it around to make it affect you somehow but if you are a girl, it's a great event to write about.

why did so many people write about the battle of tours?

I put down july 2nd 1965, signing of the civil rights act, johnson said :we have just signed away the south" connected it with red/blue state divide. Works for me since i'm interested in poli scie

I wrote about the creation of the first business school.

when the 21st amendment was ok'd. :D

I thought duskstomper was accepted already so his one worked...

^. Yeah, he did. We're just trying to figure out the best way of writing this essay.

By the way, I didn't get accepted.

So it's your choice who to listen to.

atom bomb fa sho

prolly shoulda put the supreme court case that defined a corporation as being a "person" forgot what that was

DIE MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS DIE!

*meanwhile i am applying to wharton and using microsoft windows while typing on an IBM computer and drinking starbucks coffee hahaha

you're extremely liberal, aren't you ethio? we'll have such fun together at penn!

Hmm..I typed it in 9 pt. font with underlinings. I just couldn't stop writing about my cyanobacteria!! ;.;
