I hate my state for these threads… two four-year publics, one CC, and a smattering of local commuter privates (no LACs) don’t make for very interesting conversation.

Overrated - UDel OOS
Underrated - UDel IS (perhaps because so many of us live next door to it)

See,this is exactly what I mean when I say Michigan State is overrated by many people in the state who see it as Michigan’s equal–or gasp better.

It’s not just about the prestige. By any objective measure, Michigan has better students, better faculty, smaller classes, and a higher graduation rate—hands down in every category. And yes, more “prestige,” though in this case the prestige is clearly merited. But if all those things don’t matter to you, then I guess you could conclude that the two schools are about the same. On the other hand, if all those things really DON’T matter to you, then I’d question how much you’re motivated by the pursuit of academic excellence.

“Overrated: University of Michigan (especially non-LSA), Wayne State University”

WSU overrated? Is it even rated? Michigan is not overrated, especially in non-LSA schools. Then again when I see a poster who claims he/she live in Plymouth/East Lansing, I can see what is on their agenda.

^ I never denied that I went to MSU. In fact, I said it. My “agenda” is not hidden. By the way, I didn’t say that, a senior in high school did. You confuse us.

Overrated: OSU - Not because there’s anything wrong with it, but because (at least in my town) people seem to think there aren’t any other options. I also think the football draws in a lot of people that wouldn’t go there otherwise…

" I never denied that I went to MSU. In fact, I said it. My “agenda” is not hidden. By the way, I didn’t say that, a senior in high school did. You confuse us."

I seem to recall reading a “spot on” agreement with that statement from a Spartan partisan. I guess I imagined that as well too. I do apologize for my “ageda” remark. I also disagree with the statement that MSU is considered as good as U-M in the state of Michigan. It might be by some, but they are definitely in the minority.

NO WAY IS UW OVERRATED! GO DAWGZ!
ahem…anyway…post-apple cup pride :D

Over: Seattle U-The people I know who went there have been snobby and unwilling to mingle with the “commoners” at UW…even though UW is a wayyy better school! Also the price tag is ridiculous.

Under: Whitman-it’s an amazing, GORGEOUS LAC in Walla Walla (Walla Walla has amazing weather, btw) and it’s got great academics. Sadly enough, few know about it.

True story - When a friend found out that another friend’s child had been accepted to TCNJ (a very poor student, but a very good athlete), the reaction was (I swear to God):

“Oh my gosh. TCNJ? That’s like getting in to Harvard these days!!”

I kid you not and they were 100% serious. There are some people who really do feel that way about TCNJ. As far as that is concerned, I’d say the school is definitely over-rated - at least by some NJ residents!!

Overrated
THE Ohio State U- I’m a Michigan fan, want to go there for grad school
Miami of Ohio- consevatism+racism+stupidity=pathetic excuse for a college.
Xavier- Not highly rated anyways, and placed exactly where it belongs.

Underrated
Ohio U- free tuition for those with 32+
Kenyon- Great school and atmosphere
Ohio Wesleyan- same as above, but less selective.
Wooster- ditto above
Ohio Northern- great small, preprofessional school that manages to keep the m/f ratio in check. Its isolation is its only drawback.
Wright State- free tuition for NMS commended, great school and all-new buildings. University of Dayton- quite possibly the most underrated school on earth. Visit and you’ll see why.
