What's the best provider on campus, with the fewest dead zones and dropped calls! This is both for voice & data.
Many thanks!

D has Verizon, has worked well for us.

Verizon or AT&T are going to be your best bets. Anyone I knew had one of them and they worked just fine. I don’t think either carrier is superior because some places that I had service Verizon didn’t, and vice versus. TMobile might be another good choice, although I don’t know anyone who used it.

I appreciate it. Virginia can have very spotty coverage. Having a signal in C’ville doesn’t equate to what works best on Grounds, specifically in the dorms and buildings.
Many thanks!

I can tell you that ATT 3G coverage is VERY spotty indoors. I know for a fact that I had no service on Newcomb’s dining level during orientation.

A lot of my friends have iphones and I make them look up stuff or go on youtube while we are in Newcomb and it’s never been an issue (kind of slow but always present)…

You can’t go wrong with the Iphone :)

3G service for web stuff isn’t an issue because of free wi-fi across grounds. I occasionally didn’t have service in the depths of Newcomb or the two stories down in the e-school, but most Verizon people had the same troubles. Everyone craps on AT&T but there’s little basis to it.

Pretty bad advice here.

We have AT&T and it works fine everywhere in Charlottesville.

We like the Verizon family plan ($10 / month for the extra line, plus lots of taxes and fees in our home town), as it has unlimited minutes for Verizon - Verizon calls. Thus, if S calls family members and some of his key contacts on their phones, the calls are free.

Of course, these days, texting dominates on campus, so we had to pony up the $5 for the unlimited texting rather than getting ripped off at 20 cents per message in each direction.

i’ve got Virgin and it works perfectly everywhere
