most underrated schools

not necessarily, unknown good colleges such as Pomona (the regular would not recognize the name), but rather colleges that arent recognized or are recognized as poor, but are in fact better than perceived

St. John's College
Reed College
Macalaster College

For some reason, few people ever mention Grinnell, Davidson or Reed, all top notch LACs. Among private universities, Rice is underrated if you ask me. Among state schools, William & Mary, Wisconsin-Madison, UT-Austin and UCSD seem underrated.

reed, rice, northwestern

Reed College
Any of the lower tier UCs (especially Riverside)

and I personally would not consider U of WI - M, UT - Austin, and UCSD underrated. I have never heard them get anything but positive recognition (with regard to academics)

Biola University - US News had it as a + 12 in over/under performance. That's pretty underrated.

Deep Springs

St. Lawrence
Bard
Suffolk
Emerson
U. San Francisco
Muhlenberg
Earlham
U. Pittsburgh

Northwestern? Are you kidding me?

I agree with Reed and Rice.

Evergreen State
UC Riverside
University of Iowa
University of Oregon
University of Arizona
Washington State
BYU
NJIT
Michigan State

Kansas State University: http://consider.k-state.edu/scholars/
Actually, I would say that many large publics are underrated.

Davidson, Holy Cross, William& Mary.

WHo said Pomona isn't known?

rice, northwestern, and brown

It's funny how people think top-20 universities are "underrated."

I agree that UCR and UCSC are underrated, though. People bag on the former so much, yet they seem to forget that it's ranked within the top 100 of the ~4,000 US colleges...

By the way, this topic has been done many times before (and has resulted in some heated debate).

Well, a college can still be underrated and be in the top 20. The criteria for being underrated is just getting less attention/having less prestige than is deserved. For example, Northwestern is a school that now contests (not necessarily better than) Cornell and Brown, two schools that most would value much more highly.

I think Fordham is underrated.

Ill add Wake Forest

Yale.

(just being difficult)

Reed, Macalester, Rice and the bulk of the U of California system underrated? What rot!!!

I second Wake, definitely way way underrated. Better than UNC and most people would call you crazy to go to Wake over UNC if you talked to OOS kids
