What made you guys so interested in this campus? Was it their majors? The city in general? The weather?

Oh my gosh! How many threads do you plan on starting in a 24-hour interval?

I mean, I started a lot too, but I tried to space them out a little.

Ummm college applications start in two weeks. I don't have any time to waste! =)

Prestige. That's it.

Plus all the other kick ass people who I knew would be going here.

^Interesting. Thank you for replying. :)

Umm...it's a really good university. The city is lively, yes, and the weather is nice, yes, but all secondary factors, really. The main reason you go to college is for.....college! Not so much the city or weather. So of course you want to attend the best college possible because hey, you're shelling out a lot of money for it. Might as well attend a good one.

Of course the catch is: different people have different wants in colleges so the college that is best for one person may not be the best one for another. It's up to the individual to figure out what he/she wants and research the colleges to see which ones fit that best.

When I chose to transfer, I did so because of the student body. The college is NOTHING to me if it has the best professors in the world but the students are mainly unmotivated or otherwise unengaged. That is why I hated the other UC I went to, and the CC I had to go to last year.

I also happen to be completely in love with the Bay Area. If I can, it's where I will spend the rest of my life. Some of that is because of the weather. This SoCal stuff bugs me to no end -- heat, heat, more heat, and then SNOW and cold and wind for four months (I live in the mountains, obviously) -- and I love the milder weather up north.

I also chose it because I'm thinking of grad school, and I am poking at the professors there because the graduate program is the top in the field (a particular type of English).

I was WARY of choosing it because of the financial aid (as a state school in general, and more specifically as a school which is fond of dropping students with heavy loans and work study), the fact that it's HUGE (bureacracy does not seem to me to be a good way to help a student get along, and I was sick of what I had to deal with at the other schools before it, including my high school), the fact that I don't enjoy Berkeley proper very much (everything closes early, there are a lot of punk kids around, it's still the only city where I've actually been attacked), and because of the way it presents itself sometimes ("We're Cal! That's right. University of California. Because we were the first, the best, and all the rest can go **** themselves.").

But I chose it anyway, and I am ecstatic to be able to go. The degree will carry itself a bit farther than many others, the classes (I hope! and from what I've heard from my boyfriend, who has the same major) will be more challenging/engaging, the professors will be more knowledgable, and it has the resources available to get me where I want to go.

Isn't Berkeley's awesome school color good enough for you to apply?

Undecided (I guess we're similar in that respect!): Just curious... what other UC did you go to before?

There is so much to be undecided about! I'm surprised you're the first with some version of it in your name. :)

I was at UC Santa Cruz, home of the Banana Slugs, for my freshman year of college; I went there straight from high school.

I was never ever interested in Berkeley. I only thought about UCLA or Stanford or UChicago. My gf made me go here...ha

But I love it here. Besides the fact that I just got ****ing burned on my 101b midterm, it's fantastic I think.

Thank you all for replying. It is much appreciated. :)

I was choosing between UCLA and Cal. The rankings were irrelevant to me; both schools are great in my eyes. It came down to what environment I wanted to be in. The UCLA campus is really nice, and so is Westwood, but it wasn't anything interesting to me. Berkeley on the other hand, is so quirky and different. You've got all these cool restaurants, really weird people in the city, and a beautiful campus. I wanted to live somewhere different from where I'm used to, so I chose Cal.

Also, 19 people in my class are going to UCLA. Only two, including me, are going to Cal. Not that I disliked any of my class, they're all great people, it's just I wanted to go somewhere a bit more uncomfortable. I wanted to have a completely different experience, you know? Hope that helps!
