I see that some of you have applied to and been accepted at Mountview in London. Would you mind sharing the process? In particular, did you have to fly to London to audition, or did they come here for Unifieds or something similar? Also, if anyone has visited, what were your impressions of the school? Finally, pros and cons to going to school in London? Thanks! (I would also love to hear from students who are currently attending...)

Hi,
We’ve never seen the school but I’ve read alot about it. My other daughter goes to school in London (grad school - not musical theatre) and loves it there. I haven’t been but would love to go.
I think we applied directly to the school (although there is a common app there for alot of schools). We made a really good quality video of my daughter’s songs and monologues (whatever they required) and also a good dance video with ballet, tap and jazz routines.
They sent my daughter a lovely letter and accepted her right away. Not sure what we’re going to do now because there are alot of offers on the table. London is very appealing but I’ll definitely have to look further into it.
Hope that helps a bit.
Good luck out there

Thanks! I saw that your D got in…to Mountview and a number of other places! Congratulations. I didn’t know if you could audition via DVD, but I’m glad you can. The program looks great, and the fact that it’s 3 years for a Bachelor’s is appealing as well. I would love to hear what you learn about it as you investigate further. I think we are putting it on my D’s list! Thanks again.

I don’t know anything about that particular school but I will mention one caution that you may want to consider with schools in the UK. They sometimes run on a different schedule than schools in North America which may present problems with booking work during college summers. There is the additional issue of not being in N.A. to audition at the many summer stock events. Be sure that you know what the rules are for kids working in the UK if they’re on a student visa as well. Being removed from the theatre world and connections in N.A. for the four college years should be on your pro/con list.

Yes, those are all good points to consider. On the pro side, though, you get a Bachelor’s degree in 3 years, a Master’s in 4. I would love to talk to a North American who went to a MT or Acting program in the UK about all these issues.
