After reading the horror stories at the Parents Forum about move in day , I thought I would see if our easy move in was atypical. We drove up DS predawn with everything plus two parents fitting into a Honda civic (his shorts, flip flops, polo shirts, camera, desktop computer, laptop, NO tv, NO stereo, NO sports equipment) and hit UVA around 8:15. Schlepped the stuff up three staircases from parking spot then two floors in dorm (guess the "greeters' were still sleeping) and had room set up, computer connected etc by 10am. Hit Downtown C'ville for breakfast ( a Gusburger). Only glitch was on way back getting caught in mid morning gridlock by central dorms.

Minor amusement with rug in room addressed to girl in another dorm, but otherwise EASY. RA was personable and did the rounds. LOL of parents toting TVs and shelves back down to car due to small dorm room but everybody seemed pretty jovial.

So, is UVA Move in just better than other schools?

That sounds about like my experience with first year move in day, except I came right in the middle of a "rush" period. Second year move in was a bit more of a hassle, though...

Sounds like both of my move-ins. Second was easier since we came later and the first year dorms are far enough from Faulkner to have no effect on moving in..

Mine was very easy! I'm in Brown so I brought the TV, shelves, etc because my room is nice and big. So I guess my first year move in experience wasn't typical but it was good.

Move-in wasn't too bad for me. I came in around 11 am and finished moving all the stuff to the room about an hour later. The only thing is walking up the freaking mountain...Balz Mountain. I ate lunch with my family and then went to the store to buy some food for the room. My mom dropped me off and we said our goodbyes. It really wasn't sad because I would see her in a few months. My mom left at around 3:30 pm.
