Moving in suggestion and other question

So I'm asking this now because I start NYU July 6th(HEOP Program) and I move July 5th so I;m going shopping next week for my stuff. I was wondering is there any suggestion and what I should bring and how to bring it?

Should I go by train/subway(I live in Long Island)with all my stuff or drive to NYU?

I think I know the basic things to bring but is there something most people forget to bring that is important?

Also an extra(maybe stupid question lol) How do people take their laundry from their dorm room to the laundry in the basement? I'm guessing most people just carry their bag there?

Re: laundry. You can use a laundry bag or laundry basket. If you don’t feel like carrying it, you can buy a granny cart.

Driving with a couple of people to help is the best solution. One can double park while the rest of you unload. On Aug 30 they’ll close off a traffic lane so families can unload the cars - I don’t know that they will do that for July 5.

Look on the Parents Forum - lots of threads on what to bring. With those lists, my daughter didn’t forget anything. Most favored item - featherbed or fiberbed - it goes on top of the dorm mattress, then put sheet on top of everything. With a Bed, Bath and Beyond coupon the cost is pretty reasonable (and worth it).

I know we will be bringing a handcart or two - will make moving in much easier. I don’t think July 5 will be as crowded as regular move-in day so getting one of the carts won’t be as much of a problem.

Good luck - how exciting for you!!

okay. Ty so much =]

The lists I referred to are in the Parent Cafe under the Parents Forum. First thread…

Wow that thread is very helpful. I’m still reading it lol.

The good thing about the HEOP program in the summer is that when it is over we get to move into our regular freshman fall/spring dorm early(mid august). So I won’t have to deal with it in welcome week like everyone else. =]
