Are you serious? All schools let you ship your stuff in. Anyway, try and ship it the day before you leave home, so it get to NYU after you, in that case.

The vast majority of people arrive by car with their families. Usually what happens is that you pull up as close to the building as possible and unload all your stuff onto the sidewalk. Then someone goes to park the car in a lot nearby and the others guard your stuff. :) You need to sign in, get your key, then line up for the elevators. If you need a cart to load your stuff in, you'll have to wait for one of those for ages. Bring your own or a few family members with you to carry everything up. It's a hectic nightmare of an experience but you will survive.

As for shipping, you cannot ship stuff to arrive before you do. If you want to ship, you'll have to arrange to have it arrive after you're moved in. Be sure you have bedding, etc. for the first night if you're doing this. But like I said, most kids arrive with their families so this isn't a problem. There will be welcoming activities that day for families as well so it's kind of nice to have them around to help with the move-in and set up of your room. I can't imagine arriving that day all alone.

MOVE IN DAY IS SO LONG AND SO HOT!!!! That said it is one of the most fun days you'll have. 99% of kids drive their stuff in. I wouldn't reccomend mailing it because NYU won't hold any stuff for you if it arrives early. The only exception is the bedding that you can buy from that company that came with your admissions passage. For anyone that lives in 3N I'll see you next fall!

well its not possible that 99% of the kids drive stuff in....cuz at least 10% are from california and us californians couldnt possibly drive our stuff in if we wanted to...

Maybe it's not 99% but certainly the vast majority of kids drive in with their families. For those who fly, the ones I know, had each family member who came with them carry two big suitcases so it wasn't a problem bringing the large majority of their stuff that way. If you have a laptop, as most people do, you can also carry that with you. It's really not a huge deal if you're not driving in, you just head off to do some shopping after you get into your room. And I doubt that 10% of NYU students are from California, that seems high.

ichi, yes I know people who have driven from Illinois, Florida, NC, MI, even Texas.

The thing to remember is to wait and coordinate big things with your roommate once you get their info in the summer. Things like mini-fridge, tv, dvd player, stereo, microwave, etc. You don't want duplicates with those things, so work it out with your roomate.

I should have been more specific. A lot of California kids (myself included) mail are stuff to chepa college storing facilities about a week ahead. This costs like 100 bucks and then they drive the stuff in once they arive in the city.

brwneyes, did you honestly think that each room comes with a tv? Haha. If you want a tv, you bring your own. And yes, you'll have internet access, but you have to bring your own computer. ;)

You can do either really. The shipping rule at NYU is only that you can't ship packages with an arrival date before your intended arrival...the packages merely have to come after you do so you're there to receive them (logical).

A lot of people drive. No matter what, move-in day will be hectic. Just accept it.

And uh yes you have to bring your own television...
