I realize moving into the top 9% during senior year doesn't get you automatic admission, but does anybody know how significant doing this is?

Will moving from top 10% to top 9% be just as helpful as moving from top 12% to top 11%?

Or is being in the top 9% (even though it's too late) a big deal for admissions?

I would send in an updated transcript sometime in January

Thanks

If you have gotten an admission already, than it would not make a difference. Also, it will probably be too late for anything if they don’t receive it early next year. This is a weird situation, man (im thinking your school ends in January, correct me if I am wrong). Your best option don’t now would be to email your admissions counselor or phone the admissions office.

Nope my school ends in May. I will most likely be in the top 9% when they recalculate class ranks in January… How late can you send in updated transcripts? I’ve gotten the impression that it will take until late February to get an admission decision

I am currently not in the automatic acceptance range either. I do not have the exact answer, but I am having an interview with the Dean of the College of Communications and she wants to take a look at my resume. If they like me, they can chose to send it over to the office of admissions. Even though specific colleges have nothing to do with admission to the university, they can have a great influence. Kind of got off topic, but I think sending an updated transcript wouldn’t hurt. It will show how much you really want to get in.

I agreed that it wouldn’t hurt, as long as it gets there on time. You’d have to keep asking for your updated transcripts and sent them overnight or through priority mail (USPS is dying. Not good). Another option would be to send it electronically of your school does that.

Also, go have interviews to increase your chances of acceptance and schedule official visits to further show your interest in UT.

I’m not sure if it’s the same now, but back in 2005 when my sister moved into the top 10% (55 out of 550, to be precise) from the top 11%, she sent in her updated transcript and was offered admission 2 weeks later. So go ahead and send in that transcript!

Ok thanks I’m glad to hear that. Do you remember when you sent in the updated transcript?

She sent in her transcript as soon as updated senior class ranks were released at my school – beginning of January.
