TOK, I'd be glad to send you the spreadsheet. You'll see it is pretty simple to follow, you just enter the corresponding numbers and it will show your EFC. Send me an email to the account that is listed and I will return the email.

Just one thing, the AGI you will need is the 2005 one - yes the year is not over yet but they expect you to guesstimate it and then file a correct form later. However, it is a good start to have the 2004 AGI. For the value of the business, I suggest to use the CSS form and then check how different it could be from the valuation you have.

For the address, you should use your future address. An alternative would be to use the address of a relative that does not plan to move soon.

TOK, I have another piece of advice. This is something I have to repeat to myself constantly, even though I am positively ancient and should know better:

FIRST THINGS FIRST.

Don't obsess and get frantic about the address for this or that, follow Marite's advice and get the basics done for the applications. Put where you are now, and keep the Post Office informed of your forwarding address. Another alternative-ask your GC if you can use his office address as your mailing address. You know,

Xiggi is great with the FA, and he'll be here to help you with that. But it won't do much good if you don't have the application finished.

I'm currently working through my UC app as we speak...

I also received the excel sheet.. thanks...

I did encounter this problem before (with online calcs)... I asked my father.... he did not know..... what would his earned "wages" be if he is self employed?

Wyogal, I agree that the first priority is to get the applications done. It is also what I wrote in an earlier post. However, I suggested to apply for the necessary PIN numbers and look for the information that will ensure a timely FAFSA application. The issue of ascertaining the chances of being Pell eligible was brought up by the application for the Gates Scholarship. This application requires a LOT of work and it is contingent upon getting a Pell grant. Hence, the need to do a bit of preliminary work ... without going overboard. I believe that TOK will be relieved to know one way or another what his status is. And again, I think that the process might be sompler than it appears. In addition, it may allow him to have meaningful conversations with his father about his financial limitations for college.

TOK, earned wages are wages paid by an employer that are subject to social security taxes. The reason the question is asked is because the social security are "credited" (because you do not really receive them for FAFSA and EFC purposes.) If your father is truly self-employed, follow his latest tax return and it will become clear he does not earned income (reported on the first lines of the tax return) but reports self-empoyment through a separate schedule (a little lower on the 1049 form). As far as the spreadsheet goes, simply enter zero for earned wages and the Social Security taxes should automatically update.

Thanks.. yes the only reason I'm worried about FIN AID now is because of the Gates Scholarship...

BTW: Do you have the simplified ver of the under 50 K? .. Would that help me determine anything for the pell grant (Do I need to qualify for the full grant)...
