Mowbray Scholars Program

Hey guys...does anyone know about the Mowbray Scholars Program at MSU? I just got an email about it (it goes out to all Honors College invitees) and it says its about $7500, so I just wanted to know the details. (like is it 7500 per year, renewable, need-based, etc.)

Also, around how many people get it (how competitive is it)? If anyone could comment on it, I would appreciate it.

The following are from the email attachment you received that answer a couple of your questions.

"The Mowbray Scholars Program, open by application to all students, includes in its mission the support of students of color in the Honors College who have demonstrated potential for leadership in promoting cross-cultural understand-ing and who will contribute to the intellectual and cultural enrichment of the Honors College because of their life experiences."

"Mowbray Scholars receive $7500 to use over two semesters (usually during the summers) preceding graduation for research or international study experiences."

Well yeah..I read all of that, but I was wondering if anyone knew more information about it. It would be helpful if past Mowbray Scholars could answer.

I didn't get Mowbray Scholars but I interviewed for it last year. I think there are 15-25 mowbray scholars total at MSU, so it is a very selective program. Lots of people applied for it but only 10-15 interviewed, and then ultimately somewhere around 6 scholars are chosen a year. I don't remember many details but it seemed really cool- I think they meet about once a month to do multicultural activities, and then maybe a couple of other small things (and then you obviously get the research/study abroad grant). If I were you I'd definitely apply but don't keep your hopes up too much

Well, they give you about $7500 so it's worth it...the email said they would be calling people in the week of March 30th so I'm hopin to get a call.

I dont know if you even go on this site anymore or remember much about the program, but if you do, what types of questions are asked in the interview? Any info would be great, thanks!

@ashrose Did you have your interview already?
