MS Comp Sci program around NY (NYU Poly vs Rutgers vs Columbia vs Lehman CUNY vs Brooklyn CUNY)

I know variants of this question has been asked before. I was curious to know what is the updated opinion as for 2015.

I am hoping for a more hands on variant of the course with more practical projects than tons of theory.

I did read about CUNY also working to get better. Are any of the CUNY collages comparable to NYU Poly or Rutgers?

I am an international student. Does that make any difference in which collage I choose?

I like all the wonderful meetups around NYC which are informative, thats why I was hoping for a collage closer to NYC. Jersey seems to more like the 6th borough of NYC than a separate state. (I did not mean to offend any Jersey-ian).

I’m not sure what the latest is with these colleges, but I would also look into what specializations these colleges offer and what you are looking to get into.

Mainly in NYC they would have things focused on Financial Software. Is that something you would want to go into?

I’ve heard good things about Rutgers lately.

Also to take into consideration is living expenses while in school. Columbia and NYU Poly would be pretty expensive. I’m not sure though if living in NYC would be worth it for these schools…

@sciencenerd Performance optimization of code & visualization of large volume of data are topics of interest to me and FinCorp solution is in line with that. Cost of living is a concern, but the ability to network with professionals in the industry is a positive.

I am really curious about how good is the CUNY collages and the difference between them. The fact that they are based around affordable housing options and lower tution fees is an attraction. But not sure how much quality is compromised.

Baruch makes more sense than Brooklyn or Lehman, within the CUNY system. They also have a mock trading floor.
