I'm new to this site, but figured I should try it out. I'm a huge MSU fan (Dad was an alum) and am strongly considering attending MSU to get my B.S in economics and possibly a B.S in mathematics or B.A in anthropology (still not sure on the double). I'm interested to see what opportunities I would have in the honors college/if I qualify and what scholarships I would be able to earn with these stats:

I attend a highly ranked public school out of state
ACT-34-35 range
Class not ranked
GPA-4.1-2ish
AP Exams (4-5 on all taken so far)
Euro
US
Macro
Micro
Calc BC
Comparative Gov't & Politics
US Gov't & Politics
English Language
English Literature
Art History
Boy's State (Leadership role)
Student Gov (Leadership role)
Track (3 years varsity)
Cross-Country (2 years varsity)

I’m a prospective student like you so I can’t comment much about the school, but MSU’s website http://www.honorscollege.msu.edu/admissions/index.html states that a student should “rank in the top 5 percent of their high school graduating class” and should “have an ACT composite score of at least 30 or an SAT score of at least 136 (Critical Reading plus Math sections only). MSU requires an ACT or SAT with a writing component.”

Based upon that, I would say you are likely to get in. I cannot say anything about scholarships, though.

Regardless, nice job on your ACT! :)

Yes, you’re very likely to get in the HC. Go to the link SS posted and there’s a bunch of scholarship info.

livinglax, Most likely, you will get in and get a PA scholarship which this year was $18,500 for out of state. That’s what I was offered. I had a 33 on my ACT and 4.4 GPA. I was about top 7% of my class but because I come from a very highly ranked out of state school and had mostly AP courses junior & senior year, not being top 5% was not an issue.

Yeah, you’re a shoo-in for the Honors College.

Alright thanks everyone, good to hear. I’m applying next year, and would really love to attend MSU.

I had slightly less stellar stats than you did from out of state and I got the 18,500$/year through the honors college, extra $2000/year for some random collegiate scholarship, and $5000 scholarship for study abroad. I’d imagine you’d get about the same. You’d also qualify to attend Alumni Distinguished scholarship weekend (February), where you take a test of sorts - the top 10% of the event get scholarships ranging from partial to full ride.
