MT College kids goin to SUMMERSTOCK..where???

I'll be the first to admit, I have no clue about Summer Stock! Is there a page on this site devoted to it or a site anyone can recommend where I can read up? Also, can someone explain to me what "equity points" are? This is all so new to me! TIA :D

read up on pg 1 about summer stock..

to be an equity member in theatre is basically to be a member of a workers union. so if you are equity then you can only do equity shows and receive professional wages. that is the basics..i am sure that there is much more about it that maybe others could share.

"equity points" are simply points you earn through doing shows or working backstage i believe for an equity theatre. and once you reach a certain amount of points you are given ur equity card

Just wanted to let longtime CC readers know that samia525, who is a soph. transfer at Boco and was a regular poster here last year when she was auditioning (she is from Korea and had been cut from Arizona), found out yesterday she was hired by the MUNY in St. Louis!!!! She'll be doing LES MIZ and PAJAMA GAME with them and getting her Equity Card! :) :) :) She's quite the "comeback" success story!

Yay for Samia! I am so happy for her and proud of her. Coach, please pass along our good wishes and tell her that those of us who followed her journey last year are not at all surprised at this success. She was not only obviously talented, but also had a spirit and tenaciouness that were admirable. Wish we lived closer to St. L, so we could go see her for ourselves. Coach, do you know what roles she will be playing? Not that it matters .... it's just great news. :) :)

YAY SAMIA!!! I knew she was amazing when she posted her songs online!! CONGRATS TO HER!!!

Congrats to all!

BrendanN - Surflight is a great theatre. They do work hard. We usually see at least one show a summer as we spend some of the season on LBI. Most recently we've seen students from Ithaca, BoCo, etc do very well in their mainstage shows. I'm sure our son will try to see a show with us this year. He's concentrating on opportunities closer to home for the summer. Have fun - maybe we'll see you!

Excellent news for Samia - going by her songs last year she is a great performer and I'm sure this is the first of many professional successes! :)

So glad that people are sharing their great news and were not reluctant to sharing!

Lynn...yay for your daughter!

(my D has some friends who worked there last summer)

And good news, not so far from you and you can go see all those great shows

We're so excited! We have a summer home about 2 miles from Surflight and can't wait to go see all the shows this year! It's been my daughter's dream to work there since she was about 5 years old...

Lynn, I love it when dreams are realized! That is just so wonderful. You know, your D is doing just great and is an example of pushing forward with her goals despite the initial setback the first year with college auditions. Things are now going real positive for her and I look forward to watching her career take off. I didn't realize you had a home on Long Beach Island. I used to go down there to the beach with friends when I was in high school. I haven't been to Surflight but I know it is a good summer theater. Very happy for your D's good news.

I'll be at Weathervane in NH.

After recieving a couple of offers from theatres I have decided that I am going to stay home and make money. This way I can focus on my weakest area, Dance. For anyone who knows the Chicago area, I'm going to Lou Conte Dance and just taking their classes this summer. Good luck to everyone who is working, I'm not lying when I say I'm a little bit jealous :)

My D has several options - one being Granbury and Galveston - any thoughts?

I got an offer from Galveston/Gransbury and will have two friends working there this summer. Although I wasn't crazy about the season of shows, I really liked the company. They seemed very dedicated to getting their performers into the professional work force by having them meet with casting directors and agents. It's also not a bad location. Performers are housed in apartments in Galveston and get to use the gym and pool of the incredible San Luis Resort. I also think that the schedule isn't as hellish as some other stocks can be, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what your daughter is trying to get out of the summer. Where else did she get offers from?

Gluemom,
I live near Granbury and have seen shows there in the past; however, this is completely new management. The theater is very small and in the historic Opera House. There is another theater there that does a terrific Branson-style music revue, but they are moving to Fredericksburg. I believe April is their last month in Granbury. The Opera House is on the courthouse square which is full of antique stores, etc, and there is a large lake just blocks away. They bus in old people for day outings. The Opera House was closed for a while between management, and I just discovered that they had reopened. My D is hoping to audition there, but they have not responded to her emails.

gluemom - I'd like to write you but you don't have PM or e-mail activated. I much prefer e-mail, if you could send me an e-mail from the drop-down menu. Thanks!

I too am very familiar with Galvaston/ Granbury, and would be happy to PM you with info if your PM/ email is activated.
