Sadly, I have heard similar stories from this year’s auditions. One boy who auditioned for PSU at the 2012 Chicago Unifieds said the auditors talked thru his entire audition but then gave him a dance callback. He said he is sure that’s the only reason they called him back is because he has dance experience… He was none to impressed… :/

My mom said above I didn’t get accepted and at my audition they talked through my entire song which I figure is okay for theatre professionals but not for educators and teachers that are meant to support you. I finished my songs and they looked up from their songs and told me to do my monologue where they went back to talking to each other. I started coughing in the middle of my monologue and when it was over instead of telling me to get a drink and start over they asked “do you get sick a lot” “do you lose your voice a lot?” They were more interested in me coughing than in me. We also heard that at an on-campus audition they told the group of kids and parents that none of the kids from the last audition would make it. Also that same mom told us that out of one class they cut 12 kids in one year. Honestly my mother and I both agree of one audition to have it be my bad audition that was definitely the one and I was not that sad when I saw my online status change to rejected…it’s the continuous emails that keep bothering me so I just unsubscribed from their emails!

My D had EXACTLY the same experience as gabbadabadoo (minus the fit of coughing). They absolutely were not even remotely interested in what she was doing. They talked through the whole thing and did not give her a dance callback, so she knew she was done. If she had been given a dance callback, I doubt she would have gone. Fortunately she has great self esteem, or it could have been devastating. As it was she simply moved on to a walk-in audition at another school where the contrast was so great she decided to apply there immediately!

I never thought about unsubscribing from their emails! GREAT idea.

My daughter felt pretty good about her audition at NY Unifieds and she did get a callback. She’s a great dancer and actor but she cannot read music. Penn State was the only MT program she auditioned for because she really wants to do straight acting in college and take dance/voice on the side. Anyway, what we noticed were the kids who were part of MTCA. They were introducing themselves to the girl at the door and she said she was expecting them. I noticed there are a few coaches in MTCA who have ties to Penn State. Penn State was my daughter’s 3rd choice and she was accepted. Just waiting on the MT rejection letter which she is expecting and perfectly fine with. The auditors were nice she said and at callback, the dance teacher remembered her name. No regrets.

Sooo interesting, my daughter felt like she had a great audition as a walk on at penn state - felt like they really looked at her - did her monologue, 2 songs, asked for a third - which she did a cappela - called back for dance - and then got a rejection this week- but she thought it was one of her best auditions ,…, so
Confusing!

More and more I am impressed with Pace and how they made my daughter feel at ease. I am very glad she didn’t have to go through some of these other audition experiences… Yikes! She wasn’t real impressed with her Rider audition; felt they sent her mixed messages, and though our initial visit to Wagner, she loved it, she wasn’t that impressed the next time we went back for her audition.
It definitely has been an eye opening and reality check process though. Personally we have dealt with my daughter being insulted by a local voice teacher because my daughter got acceptance to Pace and none of her students did. That blew my d away as it did me. It’s not an easy road to travel for these kids, you really have to love it to your bones and have great self esteem and a thick resilient skin, that’s for sure.

D also had a bad experience with Rider. She signed up for a walk-in because we heard that they were “really nice”. She showed up 10 minutes before her appointment and found they were running 20 minutes late, but they kept calling other names for the next 30 minutes. Finally, we found out that they had skipped right over her name on the list. When we pointed that out the next time the door opened, the man acted annoyed and said “Ok, You, get in here now” She was rushed through song and monologue, and the man never even looked at her. Out in 2 minutes. I don’t think we will even get a rejection because I don’t think they even know D exists!

That story about Katharine McPhee is interesting, because from what I read about her was that her agent told her to quit school…some pr spin if the post here is accurate…

That story about Katharine is not accurate. And even if it were, if Katharine had remained at BoCo and gotten her degree, she wouldn’t be on Smash today. So, I’m not sure what message to take from that! :)

So, I seem to be having a bad day. I have been rejected from Adelphi’s acting program and Point Parks MT program in the same day. It’s a real downer because this makes 3 rejections and zero acceptances so far. I’m beginning to lose hope. Any ideas on how I can keep my head up these next few weeks?

@AthenaL this happened to me too today but now I have four rejections with Point Park being my fourth…luckily I still have six more to hear from but it scares me!!

I know what you mean! It can be depressing, but all we can do is hold our heads up high, hope for the best, and prepare for next year’s audition period. I KNOW I am going to re-audition next year. I have to. I am too stubborn to take these rejections. I am going to work hard to get in next year.

AthenaL, (and others) last year or the year before there was someone who was rejected to every single school they auditioned for. Every one except for one: UMich! And it came at the end. Seriously, hang in there. It ain’t over until it’s over! How many more are you waiting on?

I’m waiting on four more schools (3 are acting one is musical theatre) and I am probably auditioning for UArts because they are still accepting applications. I’m going to have that app in by tonight. Hopefully I get in SOMEWHERE! I do plan on re-auditioning next year. I did this by myself with no one to guide me, so now that I am better prepared and know what to expect, I will ROCK those auditions next year.

You get 'em, AthenaL!

I like your style, AthenaL!

chin up AthenaL!

Haha, thanks! I’m way too stubborn to take no for an answer. Yes, the rejections hurt, but this just makes me want to work ten times harder on becoming the best performer I can be. Hopefully my persistence will pay off in the long run!

I’m still waiting on six one of which is acting- each rejection I just say well obviously it wasn’t the right place for me and I will get in where ever I should go!!

you too gabbadabadoo!
