MT Rejections

I’m sorry, polkaditzy! At least you have some other options. If you don’t mind posting, when/where did you audition?

Daughter got rejection letter today from Penn state :(

I’m so sorry! For the sake of those still waiting, can you say when/where she auditioned?

LA Unifieds 2/11 - walk in - she did get a callback and was told to get her application in ASAP - oh well - first decision out of 8 unified auditions - all which she did with a cold - hope it’s not the start of a trend!

Yep! Me too for Penn State from LA unifieds, haha. Silly admissions.

Let’s see, like January 21/22 I think at Wright State.

@theaterg14, last year, BoCo notified at the end of March.

Dear blueskies,
Did you receive a packet from Admissions saying she did not get into BFA MT or did you get a letter directly from Theatre Dept? We are bracing ourselves for what to expect…

Rejections:

OCU
Otterbein - no to prescreen
Texas State - no to prescreen
JMU

I’m so sorry nymom94. It’s so good that she has that Point Park acceptance to take a little bit of the sting off!

If you don’t mind, fro the sake of others, would you put when/where she auditioned and when/how she received the rejections to OCU and JMU?

@honkhonkeh, when my D received her rejection from Penn State it was the big admissions envelope with a letter inside saying, Sorry we can’t admit you for MT, but here are some other great options to consider!" or some such nonsense.

Thanks Tracyvp,
I am just wondering if those who find out they are waitlisted get that packet as well…before the waitlist notification.

Join the club Tracyvp! :(

Yes - everyone beware - the Penn State rejection is a big packet… which makes you think… maybe … but no. I do think it’s funny they send you all this other stuff about Penn State - have they ever met a kid going out for a BFA in MT? Penn State - in what - accounting? Hopefully most of us have a better back up than that!

The letter was rather blunt - I think it’s pretty clear that there is no hope for a waitlist if you receive this letter.

Yes, the Point Park acceptance has taken the sting out and that is why I was able to post this today. The OCU rejection came back in December. That was an extremely difficult one as she attended the pre college summer program there and all 7 of her friends that auditioned that weekend were accepted. The rejection letter came in the mail about two weeks later. She auditioned for JMU on February 4th and the rejection letter came in the mail on January 21st.

Hugs to the mommies and daddies. This is a very tough week.

Yes hugs to all, especially the kids this week.

Whoops…I meant the JMU rejection came on February 21st :)

I just threw the Penn State envelope away without even showing her since she knew it was a reject. Now they’re bothering her with emails every day—do you want to talk about a different major? call us and we’ll explore options! NO NO NO

Just a bit of inspiration for all of us here, did you know that Katherine McPhee who is currently starring in SMASH first auditioned for American Idol after she failed her sophomore evaluation of MT at BoCo and was asked to leave. Everything happens for a reason and a degree really doesn’t mean much in the long run

BroadwayBound164 - Thanks for that interesting fact! I never heard that before! That just gave me a bit of confidence. A degree really does not guarantee success.

"…rejection from Penn State it was the big admissions envelope with a letter inside saying, Sorry we can’t admit you for MT, but here are some other great options to consider!" or some such nonsense."

When the big envelope came for my daughter last year, it was no surprise since the auditors at her Chicago Unifieds audition didn’t even look at her when she auditioned - they pretty much let her know they weren’t interested before she sang a note, were disrespectful during her audition, and didn’t give her a dance callback. She knew walking out of the room that she would not be accepted - we did some retail therapy and forgot about it… until the envelope came…

Like blueskies1108 said - do they have no clue? It’s more of an insult than just being rejected. Other schools may offer other programs, but as part of the rejection letter, not in a huge packet…

I picked up the phone and called the person whose signature was on that letter and would not speak to anyone else - I told her that first off, my daughter was only interested in their school for their MT program; and second, that based on the way she, and others, were treated at the (2011) Chicago auditions (one girl was told “thank you” after her songs before she even did her monologue!!! that’s just plain rude…) that there is no way she would be attending Penn State even if she did want to study something else. I also told her that the “word on the street” at the Palmer House was that they knew if they were interested in you before you entered the room and if they weren’t interested, the auditors were being very disrespectful and unprofessional. I told her that word gets around and that if they are going to prescreen, they should just prescreen and save people time, money, and aggravation…

I told her that the only positive thing that came out of that audition was that Natalie Weiss, who was in town for the Les Mis tour, was working their sign in table. She was very nice to all the kids as they were coming and going… (The day before her audition, Natalie saw my daughter in the hall and recognized her from a master class she’d taught - that made her day!)

For the kids who do not get a dance callback at Unifieds or an interview on campus, they should just make it clear that not getting passed on is your rejection.
